Billionaires and trillion-dollar monopolies is not a failure of capitalism; it’s capitalism working exactly as designed. The biggest lie you’ve been told is that capitalism is essential to democracy. The truth is capitalism tolerates democracy when it’s weak and replaces it when it’s strong.

Unfortunately, the "winners" of capitalism will always use their "capital" to steer how the system works.

How do we bake in fail safes, so the group with the largest war chest doesn't abuse it too? It certainly isn't any of those systems, though something socially democratic is a step in that direction. It's almost like we need an international recognition, and written into law, that society cannot survive with any individuals or corps that horde beyond a certain level of wealth.

- capitalism is the antithesis of democracy. What good does it do to have political democracy when you must kowtow to a completely authoritarian institution in order to have food, housing, etc.? A simple, trivial, example: You can vote to legalize marijuana (and win) but you can't enjoy it in the comfort and safety of your own home when you have to pass a piss test on Monday.
