If you are on an escalator or moving walkway in an airport and you are standing on the left (or worse, in the middle), you are a bad person and you should feel bad about yourself. You are, by definition, in a place where many other people are in a giant fucking hurry. Come on. We live in a society, dickhead.

in reply to Cory Doctorow • • •@marty if you stand on the left next time you're in London, someone will be thinking about you the precise thoughts you outlined so eloquently above.
So I think we make a certain dispensation for visitors.

As long as you leave enough space for getting past you, does it really matter if it's left or right? 👀

in reply to Cory Doctorow • • •last time I was in an airport, I came up behind a couple, with trolleys, standing side by side, completely blocking the moving walkway. They saw me approach but didn’t make space.
Me “excuse me! “
.
Nothing
.
“Me: This is so that people can move faster, not so they can just stand there!”

Them: apoplexy! But they let me past 👍

in reply to Cory Doctorow • • •In Japan it's becoming "just stand", with even some occasional purposeful blocking livejapan.com/en/article-a0006…
Also watch out with the dickhead - some people can only hold securely on one side - an accessibility issue.

You do realise that if you changed the words here to "car driver" and "pedestrian" or "child crossing the road" it really doesn't paint you in a good light, right? And you'd probably say, "well, that's not comparable. You're just making shit up."
IDK. I'd rather blame society than someone you've decided is a speedbump.
