Kind of bummed that this petition against a monstrous AI data center has not yet broken 6,000 signatures.

“One of the world’s largest AI data centres is being planned next to Auchtertool village in Fife, Scotland. The height of six double decker buses and length of 100 football pitches. An estimated 20% of Scotland’s energy will be consumed by this.”

given the lack of viable energy sources for this other proposed "AI" data centre in Lanarkshire, what are the odds that this one in Fife is also vapourware?

We can but hope that someone will check.

@marjolica

They quite possibly are vapourware, but not because the Labour government has been colluding with the developers to lie about its power needs. The AI bubble will have burst long before 2030, when the Lanarkshire centre is supposed to come online, leaving a huge mess for someone else to clean up.

But they'll push ahead anyway, because in the short-term developers can make a lot of money and politicians can get a lot of kick-backs.

Just tell the people how much their electricity bill will rise when it's finished and how noisy it'll get around it. Pretty sure way more will sign.

And let them watch this documentation

I'm reading Kim Crawford's "Atlas of AI".

Ai is another element of fossil fuel funded fascism.

To keep energy prices artificially inflated, by absorbing the extra electricity capacity of renewables.

Renewables are far less expensive to produce & petrostate despots are desperate to keep commodity prices artificially high & stop falling prices.

To those in Scotland...
* How will the widowed mother pay her electric bill?
* What will this do to your electric bill?
* What will this do to you and your relatives that are in software?

To those who don't live in Scotland...
* What will happen to the price of Scotch?
* What will happen to the price of Walker's Shortbread?
* What will this do to your wallet when you go to visit Scotland?

After a few years what will the Scottish economy be like? Unemployment? Sign the dam petition!

Signed.

The sad thing is a lot of people don't seem to realise the significant impact these AI data centres will have on the local community.

A recent article highlighted that the expected energy requirements for the proposed 16 centres in Scotland is 1.5 times that used by the entirety of Scotland in the middle of winter. There is also the associated water usage, noise, light, heat and infrasound pollution.

People need to get organised against these monstrosities.
