How will great journalism be discovered in a world where SEO is dying, social media is fragmenting, and AI slop is everywhere?

I asked two of the most savvy people in the publishing world @jasonkoebler and @ben on the latest episode of Dot Social.

I LOVE IT SO MUCH how you've fully embraced #peertube !!!! Great interview once again, and thanks for promoting these #fediverse projects:)

It is an amazing endorsement and in many ways legitimizes all the work that these contributors are doing, and more importantly introduces them to people that would otherwise never hear about them.

@lps Thanks LPS. I love PeerTube. Super impressive fediverse project.

@lps Watching it with 11 peers right now - that's a really clever piece of technology to prevent overloading the server 😎

I've seen some creators use #peertube embedded within their sites that have nothing to do with the #fediverse and hosting videos that are getting multiple thousands of views.

I think this should be the real goal of these technologies, similar in a lot of ways to how WordPress took over the internet as a CMS. Most people don't know or care about the politics or details behind it, they just know it makes creating and deploying a site accessible to them:)

I hope this ethos is adopted by more #foss #opensource developers. Make these services easy to use, nice to look at and have rock solid basic functionality ... feature creep is a dead end IMHO.

Tech Cyborg reshared this.

@Flipboard Great episode. I really drew a lot from the conversation.

How will students find and distinguish functional journalism that is news oriented in the era of SEO manipulation, clickbait and straight up news-masquerading Slop is something all school need to be addressing in their curriculum.
