@Anubis2814 Why do you consider Pleroma (configurable character limit, text formatting) a micro-blogging platform but Mastodon (fixed max 500 chars limit, no text formatting) 'either' of micro- and macroblogging?
@mkljczk I didn't realize pluroma had that ability. If you can think of anything else I got wrong let me know. I feel micro vs macro are subjective but I had someone suggest I put that in
@Anubis2814 Mastodon doesn’t have native support for Twitter mirroring. There are external services for this that also work with Pleroma. Pleroma has chats.
the backend also supports sending posts to members of a list, but no mature front-end implements this. There’s also a fork of Pleroma backend (soapbox-be) supporting quote posts
@mkljczk I was under the impression that pleroma was a stripped down version of mastodon. It look more like a souped up version. Is there anything that comes standard that mastodon has that Pluroma doesn't?
@Anubis2814 Pleroma is not directly related to Mastodon. It started as a front-end for GNU Social, but then Lain also created a back-end in Elixir. It implemented Mastodon-compatible API so you can use your favourite Mastodon app with Pleroma.
@Anubis2814 Mastodon has some features not included in Pleroma, including recently added post editing. Pleroma has some that are not present in Mastodon (chats, emoji reactions, rich text formatting…) Pleroma is more configurable and allows replacing entire UI.
@Anubis2814 Mastodon has better user experience overall and onboards new users in a way that's better from I think all the other Fediverse projects (just compare joinmastodon.org with other fedi projects websites), that's in my opinion the best thing about Mastodon.
Mastodon is an open source decentralized social network - by the people for the people. Join the federation and take back control of your social media!
