I won't feel comfortable recommending people to migrate away from #Twitter until #Bluesky and #Mastodon man up and figure out how to interoperate with each other.
@jan I have contributed to Whalebird, Elk and other AP projects. But the reality is that Mastodon dominates the entire ActivityPub ecosystem and is holding everything back.

Please join the folks who are working on pushing the AP standard forward. SocialHub, the FEP process/ Fediverse Ideas, W3C SocialCG, FediDevs etc.
If there's an alternate implementation that fixes these and persuades #Fosstodon and #mathstodon admins to switch, my hopes for #ActivityPub would go 10x up.

@snarfed.org already solved this as best as anyone could. With BridgyFed, which also serves as a bridge to the IndieWeb and Nostr. The only way to get native interoperation is for BlueSky to implement AP. Getting dozens of AP projects to add support for BlueSky's pseudo-decentralised boutique protocol is ... not going to happen.
Given that Musk is a White Supremacist, I am very comfortable. But you make a very good point. We do need better interoperability between open protocols. 👍

in reply to Jan • • •@jan No, the way Mastodon has implemented ActivityPub leaves a lot to ask for.

As @pluralistic points out, BlueSky will eventually enshittify, like all centralised, VC-funded platforms;

Meanwhile, genuinely decentralised networks like the fediverse and Nostr will continue happily on our way.
