"You can check out the full change log on our Discord!"

Please, stop doing this. Don't put important info behind a closed login wall. It's ridiculous. You're just making it more difficult for everyone.

Also, Discord is horrible to store this kind of information as his any similar services. Use the right tools.

even a public Google Doc or Office Document would be better for this than discord for this
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

This. Discord is ok for discussions but horrible for documentation or storing any information that needs to be found later.

Github, Forgejo, Gitea, Onedev and Gitlab ALL have spaces for this. Discord's moderation isn't a silver bullet for dealing with trolls and shit can literally be nuked for little to no reason.

Bonus points for them adding ads soon as well.

in reply to Tical91

Whatcha mean "soon"? It already spams free users with shit to pay em for more betterer Discording... that qualifies as ads in my book.

Almost as if they’re doing it on purpose to pump their Discord numbers…

When you give some people a screw, a blinking hammer and an old and not-so-pretty screwdriver, you can be sure they'll do everything to put the screw in a wall with the hammer.

Same for the Chinese users who uses Baidu Drive for downloads and storage of manuals...

* Baidu Drive (pan dot baidu dot com) requires a Baidu account to download.

This can be provided by a VCS and could also be provided in a single plain text file.

How is Discord even a medium for this? It stores links to text files? Or is the changelog the message history?

in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

i don't use discord (for reasons i do not want to talk about) and whenever it tells me that i have to enter the discord for something they could just put in a website or mediafire it FUCKING RUNS ME UP THE GOD DAMN WALL... I DONT WANT TO USE THAT FUCKING PLATFORM!!!
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

Putting something on discord is a fast way to help me decide to not use it

Patch notes also not providing comprehensive insight on changes (which Discord are also guilty of, only really updating their change-logs to highlight features they want to advertise... 😑) is also a massive pain, because it difficult to track timeframes when issues are introduced, and when they've been resolved... especially so without a change-log history...
in reply to Liam @ GamingOnLinux 🐧🎮

especially when they post that in a field that was basically meant for the full changelog.
