Who's side are we supposed to be on for this one? I tend to default to supporting unions, but I've been hearing about Canada Post being way over budget.

Canada post is a public service, its supposed to be over budget. That's like saying the firemen aren't making enough money grifting people with fire putting out fees every time they get a call.

Over budget doesn't mean unprofitable. It means over budget. You can be a public service and be on/under budget.
in reply to cadekat

Sure, but it sounds like the budget probably needs to be adjusted then.

I was hoping to get more information on the historical budgets, and interesting found that Canada post has their annual reports available to be downloaded and viewed on their website

However, from 2004 to 2017 you can get really detailed reports such as

And more

But starting 2018 and onwards it only shows bullshit paragraphs about the president's message and select pieces of information, not raw data, which is also the year they supposedly started to loss money instead of be profitable.

I don't like how non-transparent that seems. I was also trying to find what the budget was historically and when or if it has been raised to keep up with inflation but it's too early to do that on my phone

This a good find. Honestly, I feel like its all just propaganda to get rid of the postal service to undermine workers rights.

I'm on the side of whoever takes the initiative to convert Canada Post into a worker co-op.

Canada reshared this.

ITT: people more interested in getting their shit than they are in solidarity.

I guess Canada Post is correct to relax the strike to appease people like that, but I'm disappointed that they feel the need to. Y'all need to suck it up and attribute the blame where it belongs: on the government for failing to capitulate to the workers' demands.

It’s not Canada Post relaxing the strike, it’s CUPW (the postal workers union). The reason they’re doing this (IMO) is that they don’t want to cause a huge mail backlog going into the holiday season. They are afraid of turning the public against them.

A billion+ dollars in the red every coming year and potentially dropping the ball at Christmas? I can already hear the Conservatives foaming at the mouth for more privatization of the public sector.

Conservatives love to point at public services and say "This costs money to run."

Very succinct comment.

Conservatives seem to think one of two things:

There are public services that should benefit them and them only. These should be free.
(Roads seem to be the most important among conservatives in my neck of the woods)

Public services that don't serve them specifically should be done away with.
(Public healthcare, education, transport)

Anything else seems to them to be a waste of "my money".

They are the most selfish, ignorant buffoons imaginable. They say they just want to be left alone, yet they barge into public forums and bitch all the time.

It's like "well fine, why are you even here to begin with if you don't want to interact with other people? Just fuck off and live your own life far away from the rest of us. We have a society to run here."
