Tried Onsdel. No, #Ondsel ES. An utterly unmemorable name, but a good progress even over the recent dev #FreeCAD, which had numerous improvements already. But any version that won't make me accidentally open Transform 20 times per project would win me over, and this one finally doesn't :)
Modelling as I go, looking at the current shape and adding or cutting, is also more feasible, which is important for those of us without spatial ability.
And yes, my design is heavy on fillets. #3dModelling

The feature set says "Open Models Only, 1GB in online vault".

Can you do a normal cloud-free local workflow with this or does this enforce the use of some "online vault"?

in reply to Ponygol

Ah, that's their paid thing, I didn't look into it at all.
It's just a regular local FreeCAD, no internet connection or anything needed if used locally. It had some panel talking about using Lens feature, but I closed it and went on with designing.

Great that it's not a variation of cloud-based OnShape or semi-cloud-based Fusion360.

May I ask? I'm already downloading the distribution to try, but in case you have ready answers. Compatibility of models with FreeCAD is declared, what about models made with workbenches not included in the standard installation? Is it possible to install those plugins? According to the descriptions, big changes have been made in the Sketch workbench. Are they still compatible with FreeCAD?

Ondsel ES uses the very same addon manager, you can install whatever you like :)

Regarding offline/online use, I was hoping "Full 3D CAD design suite for the desktop" on the Pricing page would remove the confusion. Where would you expect to find the information that offline use is supported just as expected?

in reply to Alexandre Prokoudine

To be honest, my "is this worth looking further"-detectors lead me astray. I just saw "open-source heart" which I decoded as "open source core, but not really" as many projects do these days. On the pricing page it just mentioned "cloud options" as the difference and at this point I asked this question as a shortcut.

I've since read some of your blog posts and I see that the first impression was wrong.

It's not easy to give a hint. When I was looking for information on the site. I tried to find a brief description of the product (I found a blog post, but there is a lot of detail, and I did not find a clear statement that the cloud is optional). I saw the line "Full 3D CAD design suite for the desktop" but from these two sources I was under the impression that it was a Fusion360 model. Now after reading other blog posts I realize that this model is disapproved.

Thanks to the both of you. I've made a quick amendment to the Pricing page to clarify that ES works offline. I'll keep your feedback in mind when expanding the home page with more info about the product

Hadn't heard of this'n yet. Certainly gonna give #ondsel a try for my next drawing now. I'm already a huge fan of #freecad, so anything that makes it less fiddly is a win in my book!
in reply to eshep

Yeah, I'm a fan of freecad too, and they are adding many improvements now, and sped up the development in general. They still suffer from 'we can't break workflows' and 'but what if', that hinders progress, but the movement is there.
