Samarran Ceramic Plate (5000 BC); from Samarra, Mesopotamia - modern-day Iraq.

Here women stand in quadrants, their hair whirling in four winds, circled by a ring of scorpions.

Samarra, a neolithic town created a long line of splendid painted ceramics and female figurines. The Samarran Period (6500-6000 BC) is known for its finely made pottery decorated with animals, birds, and geometric designs.

A ruins of street at the ancient city of Mohenjodaro (Mound of the Dead), an archaeological (Indus Valley Civilization) site, flourished around 2600-1900 BC, now in Pakistan.

Mohenjo-daro has a planned layout with rectilinear buildings arranged on a grid plan. Most were built of fired and mortared brick; some incorporated sun-dried mud-brick and wooden superstructures. The covered area of Mohenjo-daro is estimated at 300 hectares.

The world’s first animated vase was found at Burnt City-Iran.

Shahr-e Sukhteh or Burnt City is a UNESCO World Heritage site dating back to pre-Iranic times. It was quite advanced for its era featuring a plumbing system.

Picture stone from 400-600 AD found at Rikvide burial field on the island of Gotland, Sweden. Known as the Snake-Witch stone of Gotland, it actually reminds of the Birth-giving Goddess in her form of Mistress of Animals.

A 1st-2nd Century AD; Roman Vase with Phallic Symbols; found from Camulodunum (Roman Colchester), England.

Phallic symbols are found on a wide range of Roman objects, from amulets to frescoes to mosaics to lamps. While for us erect phallus always evokes associations with sex, but in ancient Rome the range of its meanings was much broader. Phallus symbols intended to bring good luck and ward off evil spirits.
