If you want to narrow down searches on Mastodon, there are special operators you can include in your search ("operator" in this context just means a special phrase).
For example if you want to only search posts you've interacted with in some way, include the operator in:library

The advanced search options require a server to be using an add-on called elasticsearch.
Some servers don't have elasticsearch because it costs extra to run. If they don't have it, Mastodon displays a message saying that advanced search options aren't available.
However, the normal hashtag search should work fine.
You can ask your server admin if you're unsure about the situation.
In my experience, those tags are actually necessary to find posts I know exist.
EDIT. Sorry I meant operators not tags. I was searching for one of my own posts. Using the same keywords but specifying "from:" was required. In other words, the default search seemed limited and/or confusing.

@BorisBarbour be careful, there are some out there that are very vocal about the use of #Hashtags in their feeds. As if they don't want any added context to their post for viewers or for their post to be easily found at all.
It seems like most only think of hashtags as they're used in mainstream sm, Instagram comes to mind, rather than a library catalog. Where, every item needs a ton of key words for search, including common misspellings, if you expect it to turn up at all.
In fact, much like original web searches used to be, before everyone needed to pay a toll just to be found.

So in this case, the operator does not "narrow" the search, it broadens it. The underlying problem is presumably that the default keyword search has some opaque limitation.
It's safer just to leave the quotes out, or only use them with the search terms. There shouldn't be any quotes in contact with the operator as it breaks it.
I think the normal search just searches the content of the post but does not include the name of the author of the post.
The from: operator lets you include the name of the author in the search so yes, you're absolutely right, in that situation it does broaden the results. I stand corrected.

@video It’s really cool! Trying it now. One thing I notice is, if I minimise safari on my iPhone then the music stops entirely. I’m pretty sure there are other sites that I’ve used where the music keeps playing even when not in focus. That would be nice so I can use my phone for other things 😅 Now I’m listening through the Cuterdio app, but that loses all of the fediverse and social stuff.
