Great work done by the lovely volunteers who came out last week to plant at Tayport Common saltmarsh. Over the two days we planted out 1200 plants to help stop erosion, build saltmarsh habitat and store carbon.
Is it bad that we'd like some rain now to help the plants establish?

I've re-written, expanded, and updated my iconic 2018 Twitter thread explaining how we know without a shadow of a doubt that humans are causing climate change.

@dana That would have been a great add to the thread.

I have this video that explains! vimeo.com/channels/1141380/151…

Good news for today! The American Geophysical Union and the American Meteorological Society are teaming up to support climate science in the US and fill the vacuum left by the cancellation of the support team and dismissal of the authors of the Sixth National Climate Assessment.

Specifically, they "invite manuscripts for a new, first-of-its-kind special collection focused on climate change in the United States."

What gives me hope? When clean energy alleviates poverty, leaders speak up for justice, and people realize they’re not alone in caring about climate.

Good news: Pakistan installed 22 GW of solar in 2023—more than Canada ever has, and more than the UK added in the past five years.

Not-so-good news: The world lost Pope Francis last week. He was a fearless advocate for climate justice, continually reminding us that climate change is a moral issue that hits the most vulnerable first and worst.

What you can do: Two new studies show most people care about climate change—but they don't talk about it, because they think others don’t. When we speak up, we empower action!

The City Nature Challenge 2025 kicks off today, April 25! From now until April 28 you can take pictures of wild plants and animals you observe in your city and then upload them via the iNaturalist app. It’s like Pokémon Go for nature! Then, from April 29 through May 4, log on to help identify what was found. See citynaturechallenge.org for more details.

Build solar and wind.

That's the job, don't be distracted.

The job is ending carbon by building the new energy. Don't be distracted.

Climate warming, forest fires, climate storms, tornado clusters, dying on your bed from rhe heat, is carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

Build the new energy, make carbon redundant, un-used, un-needed UNDERGROUND.

DON'T BE DISTRACTED.

BUILD SUN AND WIND.

DO NOT BE DISTRACTED.

I grew up in Tayport and would help with this if I could, but I'm now in London so not able to participate, sorry.

Absolutely chilling episode of Tech Won't Save Us from last month talked in part about how many Christian leaders do "get" a lot, but their congregation is not interested in hearing it. techwontsave.us/episode/275_th…

It's a tough topic from the pulpit. We are commissioned to be good stewards of the creation. That message seems to be lost.

The tides were good for planting on the Eden estuary this week, and we had some lovely volunteers to help us. This was the Tuesday group.

If climate justice had a formula, it could be this:

One tenacious lawyer + 2,500 determined senior women = a ruling that reinvents climate accountability

With science, law, and relentless determination, Cordelia Bähr didn’t just fight for justice—she redefined it.

I'm delighted to recognize her groundbreaking work with this citation!

To be clear: Ellen will join as a spectator and his cheerleading squad, not as a rider. I would love to ride with him, but I don’t have a retired man’s time for training! 🙂

With CO2 at over 429 ppm, it's getting to be too late - that is higher than during the Mid-Piacenzian Warm Period of the Pliocene. If it wasn't for the sulphate & particulate aerosols, global warming would be far worse than it is now, as Hansen et al, have pointed out.

We've been busy confirming the next saltmarsh restoration planting dates today.
If you are in Fife, near Tayport or St Andrews and like getting muddy while restoring habitat, reducing coastal erosion and creating a carbon store, we have a day out (or more) for you.

Beavers, birds, and biodiversity—sometimes, nature really does know best. And our love for the natural world can be a powerful driver of climate action.

🌿 Good news: In the Czech Republic, a government dam project stalled for years… until a colony of beavers built a network of dams in the exact same spot. As one expert put it: “Beavers do it for free—one thousand times better than people.”

🐸 Not-so-good news: Amphibians are in hot water—literally. A new study shows that if temperatures rise 4°C, nearly 1 in 13 amphibian species could face extinction.

🐦 What you can do: Get outside and go birding! It’s a simple, joyful way to deepen your connection to the natural world. Paying attention to nature starts right in our own backyards.
