Today in Labor History July 28, 1915: 330 U.S. marines landed in Port-au-Prince, marking the beginning of a 19-year occupation of Haiti. The occupation took place after President Vilbrun Guillaume Sam was assassinated by insurgents. Haitians rose up against the Americans in two major rebellions during the occupation. U.S. forces slaughtered up to 15,000 Haitians in protests and uprisings, plus another 5,500 died in their forced labor camps. The U.S. was guilty of numerous human rights violations, including summary executions, censorship, concentration camps and torture.

I saw clips of this online and it's terrifying. 😱
(UPDATED video link.)

We truly are witnessing the rise of #The5thReich.

Just as in 1929, economic collapse was used as an excuse to vilify #immigrants, build #ConcentrationCamps, call fellow Americans "the enemy".

T****, Miller & Rubio bemoaned "LEFT-wing violence", and are claiming fictional #AntiFa to be an Int'l Terrorist Org. #JFC

Today in Labor History June 25, 1943: Jews rose up in resistance to the Nazi occupation of the Częstochowa Ghetto, in Poland, after four months of mass executions and the initiation of the final liquidation of the ghetto. The Organization of Jewish Fighters organized the uprising. Fighters barricaded themselves in bunkers. Mordechaj Zylberberg, a leader of the uprising, committed suicide just as the Nazis were about to capture his bunker. The Nazis created the ghetto in 1939, after Bloody Monday, when they slaughtered 300 Jews. 2,000 Jews died during the 1943 Częstochowa Ghetto Uprising. 48,000 Jews were deported from Częstochowa Ghetto to the Treblinka death camp.

Today in Labor History June 24, 2012: Gerhard “Gad” Beck died in Berlin. He was a Jewish teacher, antifascist, and the last known surviving gay survivor of the Holocaust. Because one parent had been a Protestant, prior to converting, he was not deported with other Jews. However, his lover Manfred Lewin, had been arrested and detained in 1942. So, he borrowed his neighbor’s Hitler Youth uniform and marched into the pre-deportation camp where Lewin was being detained and asked them to release Lewin to help with a construction project. Surprisingly, the ruse worked. However, Lewin refused to go with him because, in his words, if he left with Gad and abandoned the rest of his family, he “could never be free." Lewin and his entire family were later murdered at Auschwitz. Beck joined an underground resistance group and helped other Jews escape.
