@mandarvaze if you just want to use the app (like drinking #Amul milk), you don't need to be a member.

But if you become a member, you share the ownership of the app and can vote to elect people who will govern the app - like deciding its #privacyPolicy or hiring developers to build features in the app.

You can also get elected to the leadership. The app will be run #democratically by its members.

This may look strange to you, but made possible by #FreeSoftware.

So here’s another really cool thing about open source.

You have an organization like @Codeberg, who runs a GIT service. They put their own privacy policy into a public repo. Today they announced their first privacy policy update in 6 years, and you can just go look at the diff history to see what changed.

So good.

If you’re using LinkedIn, privacy policy changes are coming. As you might expect, they’re not good. One allows tracking you off the site.

Here’s the info page:

If you’re in the U.S. here are direct links to all of the relevant opt-out settings (most new, some old):

Roku just updated its 101 page, 128,189 characters long Privacy Policy.

For size comparison, the standard Mastodon and Threads post limit is 500 characters, Bluesky's character limit is 300, and xTwitter, 280 for free accounts/25,000 for paid X users.

Happy reading.
