A TTC streetcar *looks* big, but its total space footprint in traffic replaces just 5 stopped cars or ~2 moving ones. A street car can be nearly empty and still be more efficient than cars.

Alto Plows Through NIMBYs (Part 1)

Plowing through a crowd of a thousand NIMBYs has proven politically painful for Canada's high speed rail ambitions. By being as open and transparent as possible given its mandate, Alto has triggered some of the highest levels of NIMBYism Canada has ever seen, as paranoia sweeps the river-basin-sized potential route as pickup-truck-driving farmers assume the worst. Paige, Reece and Cara pick up where Paige's CBC series left off to bring you up to high speed on the status of the project.

The buses that I took the most:

The 154 or 156, the primary buses to the fancy Bukit Timah schools I went to

The 97/197, my primary bus to work / dates / nights out

190 from school to hang outs downtown

170 from school to Malaysia for lunch (heh)

106 to holland village, orchard

I even told a story about riding buses: munidiaries.com/2023/06/18/a-s…

Supposing you were in San Francisco next Monday and Tuesday, solo, on foot or on mass transit, based in North Beach overnight, where would you go? My head is full of ideas, but they aren't the only ideas.

“ Oct. 22, the #Seoul Metropolitan Government is deploying the nation's first regularly scheduled driverless night shuttle — the Cheonggye A01.

Stripped of both a steering wheel and a driver's seat, the futuristic pod-like vehicle weaves along a 4.8-kilometer loop, binding together the city's vibrant nightlife, culinary hubs and cultural landmarks under the glow of the city lights.” #transit

I had so much hope for the city of #albuquerque in #newmexico when we moved here almost 2 years ago. There was a relatively new #brt and there seemed to be an #urbanist energy that was building. Unfortunately, like a bad relationship, I keep ignoring the red flags. Lol. The political will and the NIMBYs are holding this town back and I'm not interested in waiting. Sorry friends! Off to #seattle #pnw. They have a solid plan for #transit #bikelanes and general smart #urbanplanning

Calling on the transit nerds of fedi. So, my last shoulder bag (size of an ipad) that renfe threw in the trash, was made with a fabric that is used to make bus seats, but I bought it in some random popup market stall several years ago, would anyone know where I can find a similar bag within the EU?

I have previously discovered the london transport museum, but they're a bit too london specific for my tastes and don't fulfill my bag needs and on top of that, I don't want to deal with customs. #bus #rail #transit #moquette

Castro & Market, Summer 1958
A view from the platform entering the Twin Peaks tunnel. A Muni M-line streetcar about to cross the intersection, traffic all around and a passenger waiting, just a nice dynamic shot. with billboards, the gas station, the tower of Trinity Methodist Church in the distance (burned 1981) I do a lot of repetitive streetcar shots, but this one just kind speaks. #sfmemory #sfhistory #castro #eurekavalley #sanfrancisco #transit

I was recently diagnosed with cancer. TL;DR: I’m doing well and treatment is working. I’m much luckier than many.

I’ve decided to share the way that cycling and public transit have become such an important part of my cancer journey and the overwhelmingly positive impact they’ve had on my mental and physical well-being. My hope is that it can show other recently diagnosed people that there can be hope, though I recognize that we are all are on our own different journeys.

If you're a #transit or #infrastructure nerd, you should check out this video from the B1M on the replacement of the Park Avenue Viaduct in Harlem.

I've lived in the greater #NYC area my entire life. We don't build things on time. And we sure as hell don't build them under budget.

This one did both. Maybe we… can… have nice things?

SURPRISE! NEW SKYLARK DUQUESNE TRACK!
"20 Feet Below (Sinkhole Bus)" is an older song. Maybe 2019 or so? I've remixed it with modern gear and it sounds a world better. Much more clear.

This is the story of the sinkhole bus, which got stuck in Downtown Pittsburgh and was rescued by a crane. I though it was kinda romantic! (I mean, as transit disasters go!)

I love the power ballad feel of this. It turned out just perfect. Get your lighters ready!

Likening this time period to the Hunger Games is apropos. While more of your income is going toward groceries, gas, medicines, utility bills, etc..., and you may struggle to pay for these necessities, the "leeches" at the top amass more and more wealth. Paid politicians tilt the scales in their favor. We could have universal #healthcare, better #transit, affordable college, but we can't have nice things because this does not benefit the plutocrats. #politics #inequality xlauren-mx.medium.com/this-is-…
