Microsoft looking to restrict kernel level access after CrowdStrike incident might help us with our current Anti-Cheat dilemma

CrowdStrike’s Falcon software uses a special driver that allows it to run at a lower level than most apps so it can detect threats across a Windows system. Microsoft tried to restrict third parties from accessing the kernel in Windows Vista in 2006 but was met with pushback from cybersecurity vendors and EU regulators. However, Apple was able to lock down its macOS operating system in 2020 so that developers could no longer get access to the kernel.

Now, it looks like Microsoft wants to reopen the conversations around restricting kernel-level access inside Windows.

What is something you want to use, yet are NOT using?

For me, I really want to get into niri, but the lack of XWayland support scares me (I know there’s solutions, but I don’t understand them yet).

Also, I stopped using Emacs (even though I love its design and philosophy with my whole heart) because it’s very slow, even as a daemon.

Btrfs. I've been using ext4 for so long, I'm afraid that switching up will just annoy me.

Zsh: same reason.

in reply to Daniel Quinn

Perhaps you are a more discerning filesystem user than I am, but I don't think I've actually noticed any difference on btrfs except that I can use snapshots and deduplication.

Switzerland mandates government agencies use open-source software and disclose the source code of software developed by or for the public sector unless third-party rights or security concerns apply

in reply to ForgottenFlux

Ok, so when I'm next driving through a Swiss tunnel, and suddenly the tunnel twists inside itself infinitely, I can blame FreeCAD.

Hahaha, bro, I think you may have just discovered the next step in quantum theory.

Flipboard Brings Local News to the Fediverse

Next step would be realtime updates from journalists on breaking news.

KDE Human Interface Guidelines update

in reply to MazonnaCara89

They forgot the part where margins should be included on things... once again.

in reply to federino

I love Mint because it really is the best option for new users, however, they seem to be a bit of control freaks. I posted a comment on their latest blog to ask if they could include their data about the number of downloads per month, since they installed a tracker on their site in March. They only included the numbers of the first month, and then nothing. I simply suggested that they could have that data as part of their monthly blog update. They deleted my comment. Sometimes they give me vibes of Gnome's non-transparency, or at the very least, control freakiness.
in reply to federino

Shit's so new, the upgrade option is not even there yet.

Because bacteria would need to implement defenses to both attacks simultaneously, the researchers calculated that drug resistance is nearly impossible.

I'm no expert by any means, but I do know that several genetic failsafes have to be overcome simultaneously for you to develop cancer, so I don't see why it would be nearly impossible for bacteria to overcome only two things at once.

Tuberculosis is treated by a combination of drugs for the same reason and yet the bacteria still develops resistance.

So like...is this new breakthrough just taking two different antibiotics for the same disease? Am I missing something?

In the meantime you can use this. Feel free to ask if you need further help.

  • Download and Install Fallout 4, from Steam or GOG
  • Downgrade the game using their own Downgrader tool nexusmods.com/fallout4london/m… Source and latest binaries here : github.com/Fallout-London/FOLO… A bit in panic at the moment, you may need to compile it yourself to fix some openssl version issues or to make it launch on Wayland. Consult the Issues tab on GitHub for common fixes.

(You can also downgrade manually, instructions at the bottom of the page. fallout4london.com/release/ There's also instructions on how to manually install the mod if you are having issues with the GOG Installer, there's ways to extract the raw files from GOG installer executables)
- Download and Install Fallout London. And select the correct game folder as asked.
- ???
- Profit ! (I'm installing it too at that moment on a Nobara(Fedora) machine. Will tell you if i had to do more than said.)

Men demonstrationer får begränsas redan idag. Säpo kan dessutom redan idag ha synpunkter på vad som får framföras i en demonstration
