New blog post time!

This week's game is Heroes Against Demons, a homebrew title that asks "What if Puzzle Quest was on the Sega Master System?". You get a smaller scale take on it, but you also get a game that's both a showpiece and a great example of how to make every tile and match meaningful:

If you want to take privacy and security to the next level check out Novacustom laptops. (Dutch based)
They provide laptops with opensource firmware, very ethical company in my opinion!
And they joined the right-to-repair group so the devices comes with qualtiy and waranty label and offer spare parts too.

Too Much! by Jolene Gutiérrez is a reassuring rhyming picture book about sensory overload and what you can do when everything is too much. "this book provides much-needed representation and understanding."

The University of Liverpool poll shows people want real change - a fairer deal for communities and the planet, not more of the same from those in power.

A growing Green vote means standing up to inequality, tackling the cost‑of‑living crisis, protecting water, homes and nature, and putting climate justice at the heart of every decision.

Momentum is only the start.
Representation turns it into real change — and that moment is now.

One ancient philosopher whose works definitely deserve more attention is Plutarch. I don't mean his biographies, but the many essays comprising his Moralia. Here's a playlist of video lectures that, among other things, cover six of his works!

I promise that when I reboot the Mozilla brand after their inevitable collapse, I will not make it "the modern AI (sic) browser."

the expressions "modern AI browser" and "understand what’s happening and to have real choices" clash IMO

I just realised that Fozzie Bear's name almost certainly comes from Frank Oz, the guy who voiced him. (And Yoda, amongst others.)

there was this one time the muppet's jaw wouldn't close. Frank stayed in character, pointing Fozzie's hand at his mouth and saying "I OUTH'S STUCK!" as if his own mouth was stuck open - so gloriously meta.

Valve Has the Secret to Playing Your Games Everywhere, and It’s Not Streaming

A person sits with a game controller, immersed in a virtual gaming interface showcasing various video game titles outdoors.
“Last month, Valve showed off the Steam Machine, a console-like box with PC guts, along with a Steam Frame VR headset. The secret sauce of the headset is down to its Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 CPU, a mobile-focused chip based on ARM microarchitecture. Valve claims the Frame will be able to play your Steam games, both over local streaming and through an open-source x86 emulator called Fex. When you put on a Steam Frame, it will be running SteamOS, same as the Steam Machine. It’s basically a Steam Deck for your face, but it’s much more distinct than that because of the underlying hardware.”

So, this could be a bit like what the Proton compatibility layer has done for Windows games on Linux (and that has been huge, with more than 24,300 games rated as at least playable with Proton).

Let's say I want to design a little hardware thing, with a PCB, a few parts, and a firmware.
I want people to be able to use it, fabricate it, sell assembled or kit versions, and improve it.
I don't want people to be able to grab the existing, improve on it and not release the changes.
