Why does Linux have to install games and store save files and screenshots in two hidden directories in two different locations?
I am slowly starting to see a pattern and now have an idea where to start looking for these files, but I lost a lot of save files because I messed up when I thought I was making backups of all my games.

in reply to Yora • • •Linux doesn't. Wine and Proton do because they are setting up a fake windows directory structure for each game.
It's not necessarily needed to do it that way and linking the AppData somewhere else is quite possible but then you loose the benefits of bottling such stuff up resulting in utter chaos - just like on Windows - when every game screws around with your install, dlls and settings.
Painful for newcomers. Great for the rest. A stashed and untouched bottle still works years later.
