I need help! I want to make this vintage cape. I cannot make sense of how the lining works.
Is there a seam on the bottom edge? I don't know much beyond late 1930's and French. The translation is basically "short cape in a matching fabric with faux sleeves of fur."
And no, I don't think this is AI, just an artist not bothering with some of the details. It's pretty common in fashion drawings of this era.
@RobotDiver The white fabric is likely fur, per the translation. I've seen extant capes and evening coats with similar fur edgings.
But the ruffle? Maybe it's supposed to be green and the artist got the coloring wrong? That sort of detail only makes sense if it's not fur, but fabric.
I'll see if I can find any extant garments with an extra ruffle next to fur.
Some genius made his AI remind him to get milk in the morning and it used up his $20 account balance overnight because it kept checking if it was morning every 30 minutes. Lmao. “AI”

[…] at least 70% of the AI hype that’s bottom-up — eg, excited users — is people who never learned how to actually use their computer suddenly realizing the computer can do things for them
all the schadenfreude aside, it’s worth remembering that AI and agentic AI is being hyped and pushed on people who don’t know programming, don’t understand APIs, and just assume the AI would do something similar to a person- figure out (or know) when morning is, set some internal timer, then issue the reminder at the right time - all for “free.”
In fact, they are told that the beauty of AI is that they don’t need to know.
The fact that AI is profoundly different and a simple request can have unintended consequences is not talked about enough.

I spent a lot of time today sitting on a gorgeous beach near Auckland. (Was I stewing about how fucking stupid SpaceX is the whole time? Yes, yes I was. See my previous post if you don't know why.)
Tomorrow I pick up a rental car and start the Beatrice Tinsley lecture tour portion of the #ProfSamLectureTour. I'll have some extra fire for these lectures because SpaceX sucks. More immediately, wish me luck driving on the opposite side of the road tomorrow!
