Hey, for some reason I'm just seeing neofetch. Looks like it's not supported anymore but looks really cool! Any words of yay or nay??? #Slackware #Linux

Breaking: Elon Musk promises Donald Trump β€œan important role” in the upcoming presidential administration, with β€œspecific areas of responsibility to be worked out.”

A note to say that any shutdown in the US due to the *Debt Ceiling* is entirely arbitrary, optional, it would only happen if they choose to do it, they can always spend whatever they choose to spend. #macroeconomics #uspol #politics

Yeah this definitely won't make people think he's even more of a badass. Stellar optics work, agents of capital

I am heartened by this. Not by the crisis we face, obviously, but by reading stories of people putting on their oxygen masks in preparation and doing the work of survival and perseverance in concrete ways. Survival is resistance. We need to remember that.

Someone in the piece talks about making sure her family is okay so she can make sure other families are okay, and that's exactly where I'm at. Through 1/20 we are in a holding pattern, and now is the time to do or set in motion what we can to be okay ourselves. So we can take care of others.

Bad things will likely move FAST once Trump takes office. And if we are not positioned to sustain our care of ourselves and our families, we are not going to be able to summon the stamina we need to fight back and take care of others.

Weird, it's almost as if we live in a world so deeply in denial about a continuing and unaddressed respiratory symptom-linked pandemic that we will latch on to just about anything we can to explain the symptoms

Remember when he drowned the sister of Trump's transportation secretary with one of his cars and everybody shrugged

RE: bsky.app/profile/did:plc:k4kp7…

I don't think incarceration is a humane way to practice accountability. I do think there are folks who do not belong in society with the rest of us and that shunning and exile has its place, but the vast majority of people imprisoned do not fall under that category.

It took me a long time to come around on prison abolition because when it was first introduced to me as a concept it was in conversations that felt facile and by people who seemed unwilling to talk about the realities of accountability needs. So I get having a dubious response.
in reply to Gwen Snyder is uncivil

I do believe there is a need for unrepentant violent abusers and predators to have space to themselves and/or with each other to exist outside a context where they can do continued harm to the rest of us. But there are a lot of ways to create that separation that aren't prison.

I am a prison abolitionist and also I believe all of these men should be sent to an uninhabited island that is in imminent danger of getting swallowed by the sea

I would guess they're more than happy to see generics become inaccessible if they can extract promises that newer proprietary drugs are left untouched.

RE: bsky.app/profile/did:plc:wmxhj…

I read this chart differently. It says people disapprove of these extreme promises when asked. That doesn't mean they care about them, or voted based on them. If anything, I read it as evidence that people shrugged and said "meh, whatever" about this vile stuff when figuring out who to vote for.

Also, a significant number of Americans didn't vote, period. If this is a poll of the general populace (it appears to be? I can't get past the paywall) and not confirmed 2024 voters, it's not wise to say "the majority believes this, but voted Trump."
in reply to Gwen Snyder is uncivil

Trump won the popular vote, but did not even win the majority. And that's just a count of the folks who *did* vote. He won a MUCH smaller chunk of the general populace. 36% of eligible voters didn't even bother to show up.

The Dems are not grown-ups in the room secretly playing 5d chess, they are capitulators submitting to a person they've accurately named as fascist before he even takes office. This isn't about my poor widdle feelings, this is a case of "history will judge them harshly, and so should we"

Mass deportation would decimate the construction industry and make housing prices skyrocket well past its current unaffordability. Which is secondary to the core issue-- that it would be horrific and inhumane. But where is mainstream media on that obvious economic impact?
in reply to Gwen Snyder is uncivil

Corporate agriculture will likely find horrific ways to contract with prisons for slave labor and manage to carve out a dystopian path to survival. But small crew independent contractors and construction? Nope.

I have a real distaste for talking about genocide in terms of "guys it will make tomatoes and rent more expensive," but also my faith in people wanting to prevent genocide for genocide prevention's sake is at an all-time low

Even Sanders is saying he can't wait to work with Elon. I used to respect the guy as a guy of principle (if a terrible judge of character when it came to staff). But nope, he turned out to be a hack, too

And anyone wanting to be like "oh he's calling their bluff," no. He has policy and budget priorities and he's willing to see if he can't get them through by offering to collaborate with a billionaire fascist. And that's what it is: collaboration.

in reply to Gwen Snyder is uncivil

When I said gum up the works and jam the gears I was talking to Democrats, but holy cow he may do it to himself
