📣📣 AANKONDIGING: LAATSTE DEMO KICK OUT ZWARTE PIET (KOZP)
We hadden gehoopt dat in het laatste jaar van KOZP geen demonstratie nodig zou zijn. De afgelopen jaren hebben bijna alle gemeenten in Nederland verandering in gang gezet voor een inclusief Sinterklaasfeest. Vorig jaar hebben KOZP en Beweging Nederland Wordt Beter de demonstraties op meer dan 30 plekken afgelast na constructieve gesprekken en samenwerking met de gemeenten en intochtcomités. Ook dit jaar heeft die trend zich voortgezet in het Waddengebied en omgeving en leek het erop dat KOZP demonstraties dit jaar overbodig zouden zijn. Wij werden er echter op gewezen dat er in Yerseke en Texel nog steeds sprake is van zwarte pieten bij de intocht.

10 DEMONSTRATIES AFGELAST
Dit jaar was KOZP van plan te demonstreren in 10 plaatsen, het laatste bolwerk waar verandering nog voltooid moest worden. Na verschillende gesprekken met gemeenten en intochtcomités is er een overeenkomst met hen bereikt voor een inclusief Sinterklaasfeest. De gemeenten hebben zich gecommitteerd om de richtlijnen voor een inclusief Sinterklaasfeest te volgen. Hierdoor werd demonstreren op die plekken overbodig.
DEMO YERSEKE & TEXEL 15 NOVEMBER 2025
Alle kinderen hebben recht op een omgeving waarin zij niet met racistische en stereotyperende beelden worden geconfronteerd die hun zelfbeeld aantasten. Ondanks de grote vooruitgang zien we, met name in kleinere gemeenten, dat Zwarte Nederlanders nog steeds geconfronteerd worden met racisten in blackface.
Yerseke
Vorig jaar werd de gemeente Yerseke gewezen op het achterblijven van verandering door hun eigen inwoners en KOZP. Maar het demonstratierecht van de demonstranten werd geschonden, de route werd veranderd waardoor het demonstreren op zichtbare en hoorbare afstand van de intocht niet mogelijk was. Dit jaar hebben de gemeente en het intochtcomité weer geen stap gemaakt naar een inclusief Sinterklaasfeest.
Texel
De afgelopen jaren heeft zwarte piet tijdens de landelijke intochten plaatsgemaakt voor schoorsteenpiet. Dit jaar vindt de landelijke intocht plaats in Texel. Vorig jaar hebben we mensen gevraagd melding te maken van plekken waar zwarte piet nog aanwezig is of waar de verandering nog niet volledig is doorgevoerd. We hebben toen ook meldingen ontvangen over Texel. Naar aanleiding van deze meldingen hebben wij online onderzoek gedaan en daaruit blijkt dat er nog gebruik wordt gemaakt van afro-pruiken of bruine schmink en te veel vegen. Onze brief en handreiking aan de burgemeester en het intochtcomité is onbeantwoord gebleven. Hierdoor zijn we gedwongen maximaal gebruik te maken van ons protestrecht. nederland wordt beter.

Em 2025, a nossa proposta é mapear a gentrificação em Lisboa utilizando o OpenStreetMap (@openstreetmap). A atividade acontece no dia 8 de novembro, no Sirigaita (@sirigaitalisboa), e inclui uma oficina prática de mapeamento. Em um segundo momento, teremos um tour, em data a ser anunciada, pelas associações e espaços culturais que foram encerrados devido ao processo de gentrificação na cidade.
O que é o OpenStreetMap?
O OpenStreetMap (OSM) é um projeto colaborativo global que visa criar e manter um mapa livre e editável do mundo. Desenvolvido por uma comunidade voluntária, o OSM disponibiliza todos os seus dados e mapas de forma aberta, possibilitando seu uso e aprimoramento por qualquer pessoa.
O que podemos fazer no OSM?
O OSM é uma ferramenta poderosa para dar visibilidade a desigualdades sociais e formas de resistência urbana. Coletivos como o Geochicas (@geochicasosm), por exemplo, utilizam o mapeamento colaborativo para evidenciar casos de violência machista, feminicídios e mobilizações feministas.
O que vamos fazer na atividade?
No sábado, 8 de novembro, vamos aprender a editar mapas no OpenStreetMap para destacar os espaços de Lisboa impactados pela gentrificação, reforçando a importância de documentar e resistir a essas transformações urbanas.

NGC 253: Dusty Island Universe

Explanation: Shiny NGC 253 is one of the brightest spiral galaxies visible, and also one of the dustiest. Some call it the Silver Coin Galaxy for its appearance in small telescopes, or just the Sculptor Galaxy for its location within the boundaries of the southern constellation Sculptor. Discovered in 1783 by mathematician and astronomer Caroline Herschel, the dusty island universe lies a mere 10 million light-years away. About 70 thousand light-years across, NGC 253 is the largest member of the Sculptor Group of Galaxies, the nearest to our own Local Group of Galaxies. In addition to its spiral dust lanes, tendrils of dust seem to be rising from its galactic disk laced with young star clusters and star forming regions in this colorful galaxy portrait. The high dust content accompanies frantic star formation, earning NGC 253 the designation of a starburst galaxy. NGC 253 is also known to be a strong source of high-energy x-rays and gamma rays, likely due to black holes near the galaxy's center.

Dieser Fehler gehört (zumindest vorerst) der Vergangenheit an, dank der Arbeit und Unterstützung von Kim und Nico, Mitarbeitern von uberspace.de (unserem Hosting-Anbieter, also den Leuten, die sich um den Server kümmern, auf dem KeepKarlsruhe Boring gespeichert ist). Wir haben uns dafür entschieden, KeepKarlsruheBoring dort zu hosten, weil ihr flexibles Preismodell unseren Bedürfnissen entsprach, aber auch, weil sie sich für freie Software und die Stärkung der Nutzer:innen einsetzen, über eine sehr zugängliche Dokumentation verfügen und ihre Server mit Ökostrom betreiben. Yes, it did appear.
This error (at least at the moment) is now history, thanks to the work and support of Kim and Nico, employees of uberspace.de (our hosting provider, i.e. the people who take care of the server where KeepKarlsruhe Boring is stored). We chose to host KeepKarlsruheBoring there because their flexible pricing scheme suited our needs, but also because they are committed to free software and empowering users, have very good documentation, and use green energy to power their servers. Their support service is also wonderful: Not only are they fast and competent, but they listen and have a lot (a lot!) of patience and good humour.
Since it is also thanks to them that KeepKarlsruheBoring exists, we wanted to acknowledge, thank and celebrate their magnificent work, which often goes unnoticed. So we will raise our glass to Kim, Nico and uberspace. If anyone feels like it, we will talk about hosting, servers, maintenance and bugs.

Špela Petrič is a Slovenian hybrid media artist with a background in the natural sciences. Her artistic research and practice combines biomedia and performativity to enact strange relations between bodies that question the underpinnings of our (bio)technological societies. Recently she has been busy with looking closely at automation of care in agriculture and medicine. Petrič has received several awards, such as the White Aphroid for outstanding artistic achievement (Slovenia), the Bioart and Design Award (Netherlands), and an Award of Distinction at Prix Ars Electronica (Austria).

Conversations on Art and Media: Unconventional Computing is an ongoing lecture series with invited guests from the expanded fields of media art and theory, co-organized by members of HfG Karlsruhe and ZKM. During winter semester 2026, the series discusses unconventional conceptions and materializations of computers as well as alternative ways of dealing with them. In the light of the quasi-monopoly of big tech companies and in view of powerful presets and standards, guest lectures and conversations will address the questions: To what extent can computers look or function differently? In which ways can we reflect on, perceive or handle computing devices differently or change them?

Spiral Galaxy NGC 3370 from Hubble

Explanation: Is this what our own Milky Way Galaxy looks like from far away? Similar in size and grand design to our home Galaxy (although without the central bar), spiral galaxy NGC 3370 lies about 100 million light-years away toward the constellation of the Lion (Leo). Recorded here in exquisite detail by the Hubble Space Telescope, the big, beautiful face-on spiral is not only photogenic, but has proven sharp enough to study individual stars known as Cepheids. These pulsating stars have been used to accurately determine NGC 3370's distance. NGC 3370 was chosen for this study because in 1994 the spiral galaxy was also home to a well studied stellar explosion -- a Type Ia supernova. Combining the known distance to this standard candle supernova, based on the Cepheid measurements, with observations of supernovas at even greater distances has helped to reveal the size and expansion rate of the entire Universe itself.

Op 8 november organiseert de Darfur Union in Den Haag een demonstratie tegen de genocide in Soedan en vooral in de Darfur-regio van dat land. In 2023 brak er in Soedan een oorlog uit tussen twee militaire fracties, de Rapid Support Forces (RSF) en de Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF). De bevolking van Soedan is daarvan het slachtoffer, met onnoemelijk veel doden, gewonden, vermisten, vluchtelingen en ontheemden als gevolg. De RSF heeft de vluchtelingenkampen rondom de Al-Fashir in Noord-Darfur aangevallen en vele duizenden mensen vermoord, in die kampen en in de stad zelf. Bovenop de moorden en de verwoestingen komt nog de hongersnood die blijft aanhouden. De demonstratie van de Darfur Union start bij de Koningskade en voert naar het Internationaal Strafhof.
