Okay, this is a bit scary: I'm testing GoGuestReply for the first time.

It enables registration-free guest comments (e.g. for websites), powered by the Fediverse. Strictly on an opt-in basis of course.

If you'd like to try it, go to this URL: reply.kedara.social/form?fediu…

I have no idea how it'll handle any kind of load / abuse / etc. so please be kind. If it's bad, I'll disable it - but I hope it works out. Feedback is welcome here or via codeberg.org/kedara/goguestrep…

In the Upper House election, the Liberal Democratic Party proved unable to reverse the momentum of mounting national headwinds anticipated by the poor showing in June’s Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly poll. japantimes.co.jp/news/2025/07/… #japan #politics #shigeruishiba #ldp #2025upperhouseelection

In a statement on Monday, the Gaza Ministry of Health strongly condemned the abduction of Dr. Marwan Al-Hams, Director of Abu Youssef al-Najjar Hospital, who is also responsible for managing field hospitals and serves as the Ministry’s spokesperson.

The detention was carried out earlier today by a special armed unit, marking a dangerous precedent and a direct assault on the voice of Gaza’s sick, hungry, and suffering population.

Israeli shelling pummelled the central Gaza city of Deir el-Balah on Monday as the army warned it was launching an operation "in an area where it has not operated before".

The Israeli military on Sunday ordered those in the central Gaza area, thought to be between 50,000 and 80,000 people, to leave immediately.

The latest order leaves 87.8 percent of Gaza's area under "evacuation orders" or within Israeli militarised zones.

No visible means of support.

It's been a long time since #Bluesky raised $15 million from the last reported funding round in October 2024.

How, with apparently zero revenue, are they are paying for their operations?

in reply to Mastodon Migration

most likely to me is that they've managed to stay afloat on those investments until now but that time is running out and with the recent stagnation and political environment in the USA things aren't looking great for getting more.
in reply to Mastodon Migration

so some additional interesting things to add to this that I recently read about:
- when Bluesky secured that $15M Series A funding round in October 2024 they said they expected it to last 2 years (so still maybe a year to stay running)
- Business Insider reported in January 2025 that they were close to closing a Series B round at $700M valuation led by Bain Capital Ventures but that seems to have never happened and then of course the downward trend kicked in

There is, to be sure, a good bit of "performative reading" that people engage in, and definitely not just with philosophy
I'd say that repeating (often fake) quotes from authors one hasn't read just to sound cool or lend some authority to oneself is just as performative

Wouw! Dat is me wat.

Is this what freedom and the “free market” looks like?? This team can’t choose their name because the insane clown president is triggered?? Ew.

From the link:

“Trump made multiple long posts on Truth Social on Sunday calling for the Washington Commanders to switch back to their old "Washington Redskins" team name. He even threatened to block the Commanders’ impending move back to D.C. and their new stadium if they fail to do so.”

He must be buddies with someone who produces sports ball uniforms or stadium signs or something. How wonderful for capitalism if these teams have to change their name and their logos and then re-purchase everything they already own but with different logos and names.

Someone sent me abusive email about #FOSS software I maintain. My policy is that private abuse yields public shaming, so I posted about him here.
However, he managed to convince the moderator of my Mastodon instance to take down those postings.
I don't begrudge the moderator taking the postings down, though I personally wouldn't have done so in his shoes.
Fortunately, I get to make that choice on my blog, so the jerky behavior is now immortalized there: blog.kamens.us/2025/07/21/dont…

@elduvelle People who are bullies in private deserve to be called out publicly.
Being an asshole in private when you think you can get away with it should have public consequences.
It is the only deterrent we have.
I understand where you're coming from, but I obviously disagree that what I did was unjustified.
in reply to Jonathan Kamens 86 47

hmm, maybe. I feel that there must be a middle-ground solution though, like exposing their name but not their email or something.
In any case I agree that it's good to remind people that they should be as considerate online as they would be in real life.

in reply to Mark Wyner Won’t Comply

@markwyner this explains a lot about our recent interaction (which was just a difference of opinion not worth rehashing).

I want to publicly also once more express the positive way you handled it, it was with a style and grace I have not often seen.

Keep up the good work.
Stay true to yourself.

Stay open to other views but don’t let others control your view.

Continue to be the good you are for all of us.
