As funny as the joke is, it is also concerning that knowledge is still being used as a cudgel to judge people over.

We really have to stop normalizing shitting on knowledge.

... Though if they look like in OP, uh... that's using more information than knowing words to judge someone, which is fine.

Did you fix Cinnamon you broke at the end of September? I had to restore a snapshot twice and gave up on updates until further notice. The issue was closed automatically but no report whether it was fixed.

Also, possibly related, do you accept LLM generated code like Fedora does?

so far the social psychology books have been zero help.

they basically just say yes you are right to prompt people explicitly if they are repeatedly treating you unfairly, but if their response is to just counter-criticize then stick a fork in it the relationships dead.

The best thing about the holidays is you have so many opportunities to break out the sealing wax.

in reply to Andrew Pam

The problem with self-driving is the free-for-all that the highway system is. Automated trains? Sure, but fully autonomous cars? Much Much Much more difficult!
in reply to Andrew Pam

Also it seems that most companies, probably even Waymo as well, are relying on their deep-learning models to capture what's right and wrong on the roads and how to learn to drive, but they don't seem to have actual logic barriers in place to enforce the laws of the roads. Waymo cars have driven past school buses with their stop signs/barriers out. They say they've fixed this, but they don't say how. Hopefully it's not by adding to an LLM prompt something like "Don't pass school buses until the stop sign is retracted no matter how safe it may appear to be to do so." -- that's NEVER going to work with current technology, as evidenced by all the other failures of LLM/GPT model vendors to put real hard guardrails on their systems, but also just by looking at how these systems operate. It's just never going to work.

Sacrificing democracy to save Israel

Mike Phipps reviews America's Middle East: The Ruination of a Region, by Marc Lynch, published by Hurst. US foreign policy in the region became a lot clearer to Marc Lynch once he realised that “America doesn’t seem willing to accept that people in the Middle East are actually human beings.” Moreover, “this refusal to recognize the humanity of those under US domination resembles the core pathology that enabled European colonialism,…
