Two years ago, Jason M. Allen won a digital art competition with an AI-generated "painting." When criticized, he made no apologies. "Art is dead, dude. It's over. A.I. won. Humans lost," he told the New York Times. Now, @Gizmodo reports, he's miffed that his work can't be copyrighted and is itself getting ripped off. Here's the full story.

No, these aren't abstract paintings – they're photos of the Australian landscape!
When water from rainfall finally reaches Channel Country, it spreads out, filling and spilling out of the previously dry beds of ephemeral creeks and streams and bringing life to whatever it touches.

#FP #programmers (Haskell, OCaml, Standard ML, etc.) who had been strangled and swallowed by #Python, and had been left to rot within by Python 3 Typing, should look to #Coconut for redemption. It is a new strongly statically typed FP language that is 100% compatible with Python 2 and 3, and that transpiles down to Python.
An optimal use is to write the FP code in Coconut, use any Python library, transpile the whole programme down to Python 2 lowest common denominator, then run the generated code in PyPy or Stackless.
NB—Coconut does not displace Python, but supplements it.

What would be a cool feature is a system-wide "time-series signal processing" toolbox of some sorts.
That, for example, can be used to detect signal peaks over a defined time horizon based on simple thresholding.
I'd love to have this to count the number of duty cycles of our heat pump's compressor. But there would be endless more use cases for it I am sure.
Okay, I wrote about how both VP candidates last night showed they didn't actually understand how the First Amendment works, and why that's a problem. www.techdirt.com/2024/10/02/o...

Tokaido Shinkansen marks 60th anniversary
The Tokaido Shinkansen marked its 60th anniversary on Tuesday, with a commemorative ceremony at Tokyo Station held by Central Japan Railway (JR Tokai) to send off the first train of the day.Nine officials, including JR Tokai President Shunsuke Niwa and Stationmaster Katsuyuki Wachi, were in attendance, as crowds of train enthusiasts watched the 6 a.m. departure of the Nozomi No. 1 bound for Hakata Station in Fukuoka Prefecture.
Speaking at the ceremony, Niwa expressed his vision for the bullet train.
“As we look to the future, we aim to make the Tokaido Shinkansen even more beloved by everyone,” he said.
When Wachi raised his right hand to signal the departure, the Nozomi No. 1 gave a resounding horn blast as it set off.

This one is in perfect cosmetic shape, apart from yellowing.

in reply to Gammitin (Ben) 💾 • • •The top part of the shell is great, with minimal yellowing, but the bottom has damage on the front left and a post on the back right has snapped off, also yellow AF.

in reply to Gammitin (Ben) 💾 • • •I've taken the best top shell and put it on the SNES that I'll be looking at first. I'm not worried about cosmetics at this stage, I want to see if I can get at least one of them to function to make my investment worth it (the other two will be a bonus).
