Ghost acts like a single page app and I really love that, it's a little limited in overall options and plugins etc but it's worth it
WordPress is super bloated these days and I feel like everyday a new security issue pops up
Besides those two I don't have any other favo CMSes
good point on the self hosting. I'm aiming for as low maintenance as possible though.
I've been checking out Sanity.js which seems cool, but free tier only has 2 public (!) data sets.
Payload looks cool, but free must self host as well.
Maybe the lesson here is I need to self host ;)
