Blender Studio was at BCON24! Check out a recap of the activities that happened last week: studio.blender.org/blog/blende… #b3d

fosstodon.org/@elaterite/11340… elaterite@fosstodon.org - These are Washingtonia fillifera (desert fan palm). They are the only native palm in the US desert Southwest. All of the palm trees seen in cities are non-native cultivars. There's only a handful of sites where W. fullifera survive. This grove is near the Arizona / Calif border in the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge. Sadly, I didn't have time to climb up into the canyon where the palms are. I had to make haste to get to the Grand Canyon to photograph the comet!

Once again a journalist has withheld potentially vital information -- for years in this case -- in order to make money later on. It's all just business, no conscience required.

This is horrible. What's the BS reason he didn't bring this info out earlier?
I followed the great reporting from Julie Brown of the Miami Herald.
What struck me was all the fixers who helped cover up the story.
PR & legal fixers used the rules of journalism to keep stories about their clients quiet. They used the rights of the victims to protect the predators.
But some victims kept going through the intimidation, pay offs & failure of the justice system.

the last thing I’d want to read is a book about Trump! They should release the worst quotes from the tapes (or all of them, really).

(3 posts in one day, I know. Lots to talk about... expect MORE!)

I had a project idea for the #flipperzero where #linux would run on the wifi dev board and you can have a Linux system you can interact with from the UART terminal.

From my research, it has an ESP32-S2-WROVER. I've seen people get Linux working on ESP32-S3's but not an ESP32-S2.

Thought about calling it flippix or something. Anyone got any ideas making this work?

Support ticket burnout in #opensource projects is a real thing for founders & maintainers. It's hard to find people who will stay and help out others once they've solved their own problem. I guess I'm equally guilty, but, first time seeing it from this perspective. Any tips?

This time next week, the U.S. will have voted. Anyone else feel sick?! This is our regular #NewstodonFriday thread, which highlights the newsrooms and reporters who have an active presence in the fediverse. Inevitably, we have political stories and politics-adjacent stories, along with some lighter fare, and some that straddle the two (@TexasObserver’s story on a new Greg Abbott musical fits perfectly into that category). Please check out the stories, follow the publications, click on the stories, subscribe, donate and otherwise support if you can. See you on the other side.

When Manasvi Verma moved from India to St. Louis, Missouri, for college, her diet changed — and so did her gut microbiome. She wrote this beautiful essay, which is about food, science, sociology, and friendship, for @thexylom.

Some of us may be checking our screens a little more often than usual over the next few days, weeks, or (god help us) months. @TheConversationUS has a great article on overcoming device dependency and digitally detoxing, with tips that go beyond the usual “just put your phone in another room.”

#CaitlinJohnstone w/ @palestine news, incl:
"Haaretz has been far more critical of Israels actions than western media outlets have been. It recently published an editorial titled “If It Looks Like #EthnicCleansing It Probably Is” (nonpay link). Haaretz publisher Amos Schocken is now publicly advocating international sanctions on the Israeli government for its apartheid abuses and opposition to a #Palestinians state, drawing an outraged response from the #Netanyahu regime" caitlinjohnstone.com.au/2024/1…

Many articles published by Haaretz would result in uproar, loss of job and possibly prosecution in many parts of the "free world" specially Germany and UK
