5.6k servers shutting down in a month is a lot, but it is not reflected in other stats. im not convinced yet that there were 5k servers out there being actively used by real people that could all shut down without people noticing it in other ways

Although I'm a bit annoyed that it forces its own colortheme rather than use the default colors so that it matches the rest of my system.
It's just an easy thing to contrast against.
Electron is one of the slowest, clunky, memory-hogging ways to have a UI, and TUIs are the exact opposite. I don't care if (name of company that ships Electron slop here) can ship your ~~software~~ webpage masquerading as software to more systems more easily. If your messaging "app" has input lag when I type something, it's a dogshit experience.
Of course, there are ways to ship GUIs that aren't all of the things wrong with Electron, but comparing TUIs with those is less interesting and more a question of if the person likes to live in their terminal or not.
That's fine. I'm sure there are some sub-par TUIs out there. I've seen pretty great TUIs, especially the ones written in Rust (because of the excellent TUI lib they have).
GUIs are fine too (as long as they don't use Electron lol).

Well, my favorite is Helix -- a text editor. But it's a TUI in the same way that vim is a TUI, and being that it's a text editor, you're likely to have very strong opinions about whatever your current favorite editor is. Which is totally fine. I'm not looking to start any editor wars.
Here are some others:
- jellyfin-tui: nice Jellyfin music player
- managarr: manages Sonarr and Radarr servers
- wiki-tui: probably goes without saying what this one does 😁
- synd: an RSS reader
- yazi: file manager
I use way more than just those. If you do find that some TUIs may be useful, there are a bunch more here. If not, I'm still interested in what behaviors you find off-putting about TUIs. Maybe I can incorporate that feedback for TUIs that I write :)

I was thinking about creating stickers like the one that existed in France.
A sticker with the words ‘je suis garé comme un con’ (‘I'm parked like an idiot’) but with the words ‘garé comme’ (‘parked like’) written in tiny letters leaving visible only "I'm an idiot"

Many many people who could afford to buy a Tesla years ago did so for the reason they wanted to move away from ICE cars and do some small positive thing for the Earth. At that time, E.M. showed no signs of being right wing extremist or a Nazi. I would not buy a Tesla today, and will dispose of mine in due time. Still, I keep having a recurrent thought that if I don't make videos now, to help promote the Fediverse, I would regret it in the future.
Yes my daily schedule makes it a challenge to do videos. But this is a good challenge, for a GREAT cause.
I'm so frustrated and angry and disgusted by Big Tech barons and their horrid behavior... I need to channel this rage somewhere... into a creative project 🎥

take as much time as you need. You may not be able to churn out videos like a full time content creator, but nothing or nobody says you have to.

So it is decided. Yes, I will make promotional videos for the #Fediverse: explaining what it is, how to use various software... and setting it up in contrast to the current horrors of Meta and X.

I can feel tremendous momentum building for the Fediverse. There has never been a better time to convince people to abandon the closed silos of Big Tech, in favor of something open and ethical.
I spent six months writing articles about the Fediverse (blog.elenarossini.com/tag/the-…) and I'm super grateful for the positive responses here. That said, I realize that in our post-literate society, videos may be more effective and persuasive.
So: game on! (just be patient please) 😅

and half the day writing a script that aims to inflict the maximum damage imaginable to the perception of Meta and X. While of course promoting the Fediverse in contrast to the dystopia of Big Tech.

Yesterday I had a eureka moment and realized that, for my Fediverse video to be impactful, it needs to have a real person on screen carrying the message. Who? Me - I guess 😱
I've been making videos for AGES and I always happily avoided appearing on screen. I LOVE my privacy. I shudder at the thought of having to sit down, look at my face on screen & hear my recorded voice over and over.
But #Fediverse I love you and I'm willing to take one for the team.

We broke the NodeInfo endpoint with a past release, but this is fixed now and the stats should heal themselves over time (🤞).
So no instances were shut down, just us messing up things 🤫
