This is your periodic reminder that going after trans people and immigrants isn't about making America great, it's about giving people ground down by economic inequity an enemy they can be angry at so they won't be angry at the people at the top of the inequity curve.

For those of you who are saying, "Wait a minute, they can't go after the Jews, they're spending all this energy supposedly fighting antisemitism!" you're failing to understand the game-plan.
At some point they will declare that most American Jews are being "ungrateful" for all the "help" the government has given them "defending" them from "antisemitism." That's when the tide will turn.
It always does.

s@jik@federate.social it’s pretty much implied that if you say you want a ‘christian nationalist’ government, then non-xtians will be second-class, unwelcome, or forced to convert. i mean, it’s right there in the name.

New #meshtastic project: trying to reuse an outdoor solar light as a node to see if it actually works:

meshtastic.org/docs/community/…

I ordered two lights from Lowe's last week and some external antennas on Amazon.

I already have some mini radios from Rokland I panic bought before the tariffs.

store.rokland.com/products/rak…

Picked up some gorilla brand waterproof caulking at the hardware store for $8 after work today.

Going to assemble it and see how the battery holds up in my partially shady back yard.

If this works it easily could be a really low cost solar node for under $50.

This is really good. I love that #JayBhattacharya says that the people who pushed to censor him over his disagreement with the consensus over #COVID policy, thought they were doing the right thing. Doing good. Saving lives. I wish we were a culture that cared more about discussing this hard civic stuff than holding tight to comfortable and simple beliefs, virtue signaling and entertainment.

Yeah, it's hard to have a coherent discussion about what went wrong and what could be done better without talking about the specific policies of a specific locale.

This just seems to be setting up an authoritarian state that simply did not exist in Minnesota: "the inability of those with special needs to see the people who help them, the separation of families" unless they are talking about international travel but it wasn't US policy that closed the borders of other countries

Are we sure that other major vehicle manufacturers don't do the same thing?

@TopKnot

Teslas have unique vulnerabilities because of the over-the-air software updates. This does not prevent other malware - such as the Volkswagon case that @pluralistic wrote about.

My own car avoids all of these problems by being too old to have the electronics that make them possible.

I'm holding on to it for dear life.

Still driving my 1996 Volkswagon - approaching 250,000 miles and still going strong. No electronics, so no chance of getting taken over by these kinds of vulnerabilities, and its standard transmission is the best anti-theft device nowadays.

This is why we love our campervan. Have you turned off the air conditioning is a euphemism for have you closed the windows.

Sen. Van Hollen’s trip to El Salvador is happening. This really is gutsy of him. Other Democratic members of Congress are trying to get official Congressional delegation status, but of course are being blocked by Republican committee chairs. Only a bit of reliable reporting available. Here’s a piece from Axios, archived. archive.ph/2025.04.15-202815/a…
in reply to Heidi Li Feldman

As an official delegation, members of Congress might get U.S. government funded security. Van Hollen alone won’t, but he may lawfully use campaign funds to cover personal security costs while in El Salvador — another reason I am encouraging donations to his campaign fund. secure.actblue.com/contribute/…

Mastodon Migration reshared this.

I am so glad he is going and hope others follow suit and go to the places where people have been kidnapped and their rights stripped. I'm thinking more local. Congresspeople, Senators, and governors should go to the "detention centers" in the US -- Texas, Louisiana, wherever -- where Khalil Mahmoud, Rumeysa Ozturk, and so many others have been kidnapped. Fan out, make a stink, don't let these people disappear!
