Là, il n’y avait rien. Juste avancer ou crever. Continuer ou laisser tout le monde couler, mon gamin en premier, moi juste derrière, son père, sa sœur ensuite. Ce n’était pas « être brave », c’était « si je lâche, on est tous morts ». Ce n’était pas une vertu, c’était une putain d’équation de survie.
Sur le moment, tu n’es pas héroïque. Tu n’es même pas digne. Tu es épuisée, en colère, flippée à mort, presque toujours seule, et tu fais ce qu’il y a à faire parce que personne d’autre ne va le faire à ta place. Tu ne te dis pas en te levant « aujourd’hui, je vais encore être admirable ». Tu te dis « OK, encore une foutue journée, comment on tient sans s’effondrer ? ». Le courage des mères d’enfants handicapés, c’est le courage de la bicyclette, tu tiens parce que si tu cesses de pédaler, tu te casses la gueule un peu plus bas, un peu plus dur à chaque fois.
Et puis ce mot, « courage », il arrange bien les gens. Il met un joli vernis sur un truc dégueulasse. Il permet d’admirer à distance sans regarder le fond du problème : l’institution qui te laisse pourrir avec ton gamin, les professionnels absents ou mal formés, la charge mentale galactique, le fait que si toi tu tombes, tout s’écroule. Dire « courage », c’est une façon polie de dire « démerde-toi ».
Je n’étais pas courageuse. J’étais acculée. J’étais responsable. J’étais en mode survie, avec un gosse à protéger et zéro filet. Alors non, merci pour la médaille en chocolat. Ce que j’ai dit, fait ou combattu, ce n’est pas du courage. C’est ce que tu fais quand tu n’as pas le droit de t’arrêter.
Je comprends. J’ai une copine qui a un gosse polyhandicapé et dont le mari est mort d’un cancer. Elle s’est retrouvée toute seule à élever 4 gosses dont un qui avait besoin d’attention H24. Elle m’a dit comme toi : 0 issue de secours, voire même plutôt des bâtons dans les roues, surtout des soignants.
En gros, pour la société, il fallait qu’elle abandonne son gosse dans un truc fermé où on l’aurait drogué à fond pour ne pas avoir à s’en occuper.
Genre, pendant des années, les toubibs ont ± refusé d’examiner le gosse quand il était malade, parce qu compliqué à gérer. Il a 23 ans et c’est ces dernières années seulement qu’on a compris qu’il était pratiquement sourd et bien malvoyant, ce qui fait que tout lui arrivait dessus par surprise et qu’il ne pouvait pas communiquer correctement, ni apprendre des trucs. Il a fallu qu’elle se batte pour trouver des toubibs capables de l’examiner comme une personne.
Depuis, il est appareillé (lunettes et son). C’est pas parfait, mais pour lui ça a tout changé. Il va dans un centre ouvert où il se fait des potes et où il progresse. Où, surtout, il est assez heureux, même s’il a toujours les autres trucs. Sa mère a fait le job toute seule. Elle avait une seule trouille : tomber malade ou claquer avant d’avoir trouvé un moyen de donner une bonne vie à son fils.
@Monolecte Ah les toubibs, ma bataille vraie ça été un dentiste (tu imagines pas ce que c'est de soigner les caries d'un gamin autiste) ET un kiné parce qu'il se tenait très mal, risquait de souffrir du dos plus tard, mais tout le monde s'en foutait parce qu'il marchait
@Monolecte Les mères de gosses autistes sont parfois elles-mêmes autistes, mais celles qui masquent mieux ne sont pas diagnostiquées forcément. Du coup on les a jugées froides et distantes avec leurs gosses parce qu'elles ne savaient pas performer l'amour maternel de la manière socialement acceptable. Ça ne signifie pas qu'elles n'aimaient pas leur enfant.

Ça me renvoit au fait que je dis toujours bon courage à mes clients quand je les raccompagne (j'avais pas fait attention). Pcq elle est bien commode cette pauvre expression qui sert en effet à donner congé, ça veut dire allez barre toi, je t'ai donné ou je vais te donner ce que je peux, mais là faut t'en aller et te coltiner ta merde. Je vais réfléchir, je devrais leur dire "au revoir je suis avec vous maintenant" mais c'est un peu too much. Et ceux à qui je suis contrainte de dire que je ne peux rien faire, il va falloir trouver une autre formule empathique moins naze. Pas merci, je me connais, ça va m'obséder maintenant

Humanity is graduating from burning fossil commodities to harnessing manufactured technologies—from hunting scarce fossils to farming the inexhaustible sun, from consuming Earth’s resources to merely borrowing them.
This isn’t a marginal climate substitution. It’s an energy revolution.
The magnetic centre is the electron: we are revolutionising how we generate, use, and connect electrons. Solar and wind are conquering electricity supply. EVs, heat pumps, and AI are electrifying major new uses. Batteries and digitalisation are connecting supply and demand.
Three reinforcing shifts. One energy revolution. The electrotech revolution.
At its core, this revolution is driven by physics, economics, and geopolitics. After all, the arc of energy history bends towards solutions that are leaner, cheaper and more secure.
Short-terms setbacks matter, but fundamentals matter more. And the fundamentals are stacked in electrotech’s favour.
Physics. Electrotech makes a mockery of setting fossils on fire and losing two-thirds of the energy to heat. Electrotech is three times as efficient.
Economics. Technologies get cheaper with scale. Commodities get more expensive the deeper you dig.
Geopolitics. Three quarters of the world is dependent on fossil imports. 92% of countries have renewables potential over 10x their current demand.
Electrotech has grown exponentially for decades. The difference today is that it’s too cheap to contain and too big to ignore. If current exponentials hold for five more years, global fossil demand will fall off its plateau.
One notes that the electrification that Ember pushes has other advocates, many of whom have been vocal for years; c.f., e.g., Saul Griffin. Still, another voice in the chorus is welcome.
