PewDiePie just now going full anti-BigTech explaining his complete de-googling (except Youtube).

#Linux #Arch, #RaspberryPi, #GrapheneOS, #FOSS and more FOSS. The fellow has seen the light, found a true passion apparently.

Just wait until he discovers PeerTube.

(in the video he talks about comments on his Linux migration video saying "just wait until he discovers self-hosting" and of course in the video he talks about taking up self-hosting)

Yah ive seen him moving to linux too recently....very interesting turn around from making silly youtube videos and becoming the most popular youtube for many years. I used to give him as a bad example in my books, like look how dumb down content makes a lot of views and money.

Definitely I am surprised by the change.

in reply to Tio

@tio positive change, for sure. Above all showing the sign of the times is changing and regular people everywhere start to get real uncomfortable with big tech as their impact on (the unraveling of) society becomes more apparent.

Has seen the light? Or took a long tour in the sausage factory? I think he's seen enough of "how the sausage is made" and now is scared to be turned into one

I really worry about more racists like him and his rabid followers flooding out good people from FOSS. It's already pretty rough out there...
in reply to Space Hobo

@spacehobo that wouldn't be good. I don't know the guy, just observed the remarkable turnaround.

More generally speaking the awareness of the danger big tech poses to society is rapidly growing and more people take positive action to become less reliant on it.

@miek Not sure I'd promote this racist mofo as something to emulate, but you do you.

(Also lol for staying on YouTube. So much for your principled stance once it affects your income...)

@heinragas @miek

Someone mentioned that too, thanks. Not promoting but making an observation. I don't know the guy other than that he was/is one of largest influencers, arguably deeply complicit in helping erode the fabric of society with online culture he helped spread.

More generally I was struck by the rising awareness of the evil role of big tech, and the willingness of everyday people to take real action, that didn't exist before.
