What would you do?

If you could live in a world
where you didn't have to work.
What would you do?

Like in Star Trek, for example, where no one has to work because all goods are “replicated.”

Please share, lots of opinions would be great.
Thanks 🙏 ❤️

Comments are also very welcome, a discussion would be great.

I believe that in a world where no one has to “work” anymore, our relationship with time would change completely. Personally, I would probably want to find out what I really want to do with my life, without the pressure of income, career, or social expectations.
Maybe I would learn more, create more, spend more time with people—and above all, do things that bring me joy and give something to others at the same time.

Yes, and that's exactly what's so incredibly good about Star Trek, but also so damn important for the whole situation in the world.

It's utopian, but it's a great dream for the future.

I would work but less days a week than I do now (currently full time). I really like my coworkers and believe in the mission of the not for profit organisation I work for. I think the structure a job provides is also really helpful, I've tended to become a bit directionless when unemployed. My ideal if money wasn't an issue scenario would be to work a traditional job maybe 2-3 days a week, then spend the rest of the time studying, getting involved in the community and getting out in nature

Was it Mark Twain in his Tom Sawyer story that mentioned, "Work is only work, if you have to do it"

I think we need to define work.
Block me now, I'm about to ramble LOL

The boss who sits at the desk all day while worker bees fill the truck, is he working? Not if you ask the manual laborers. So, this could be subjective.

Work, for financial gain, would not be necessary but those trees I grow won't plant themselves.. I'll be digging the holes. If I didn't have to, I'd still want to.

It would also make us lazy, anything we wanted to do but nothing we had to do
And someone has to tear apart the clock radio so someone else can learn to fix it

Work like so many things, which need to stop, in modernity is measured/valued wrongly. It is measured by tax you pay or profit you make therefore adding to the growth(extraction) economy. An aspect of a domination system. I believe we need to replace this with partnership culture and one which recognises and rewards work which develops and maintains a thriving, not just surviving, society.

@DoubleTreble

I understand the part about going crazy 😆

I think it's great that you do so much, and the volunteer work is really awesome too ❤️

Hey, a book club too, I really like that.
I hope I finish writing my book and then I'll shamelessly suggest that you include it 🙈
So far, there's a lot to read, but I've been stuck in a writing slump for so long and haven't posted anything.

What kind of books do you read in your club?

Not in the way we define work today, no.
We define work in terms of remuneration, and that would no longer exist.
But if we see work as a recurring activity with a rhythm, then that changes.

But this is precisely the question many people ask themselves, and that's normal. It makes you think about what exactly you think work is or should be.
