Damn, the #VR bubble is unreal in explaining to me why a #SimPit is just wasted money and how I can not have fun with a #HomeCockpit. Literally below my posts/videos showing how much I enjoy pushing buttons.

Is this how #Console gamers feel when someone from the PC Masterrace shows up?

Beko Pharm reshared this.

don't listen to them. VR is okay for visuals but you don't have real tactile feedback.

I have a VR headset and tried an arcade flight sim demo with a virtual cockpit. And can say it does not hold up to the real thing. Great cockpit you got there! 👍🏻

@silverwizard heh, I'm still considering an older Quest 2. I hear it's fairly simple to get sideloading to work and quit the Metaverse.

Still won't beat a pit as it is "just" 3D, which is only like a tiny part of the whole shebang.

I've been using my Quest and Quest2 as just a massive screen (using Immersed) for quite a while now and love it for that. So a few months back, I decided to buy the new #VISOR headset the #Immersed folks've been workin on. I really hope it works the way I want for playin Star Citizen; one big stationary wraparound screen that fills my entire periphery.

Tactile is immersive. Poking open air isn't.

I need a holodeck.

Oh, hey, for X4, how do you deal with all of the menus during combat? Do you use any mods? I can't live without the targeting surface element mod—yet so few mods provide the ability to add hotkeys for their features! I've been looking into making my own submod just for that.

@elight check "SirNukes Mod Support APIs". It's what I use as base to sideload lua_socket to get myself some ship telemetry on the wire.

It does feature hotkeys as a demo and with this you can in theory get hotkeys for anything.

I find the whole setup rather complicated though as it requires a Python server as middleware (that's the Windows only part I did not reimplement in my Linux compat tree - I just let the game spawn it's own socket and that does not forward input [yet]).

in reply to Beko Pharm

I've been looking at that, yes.

Even new hotkeys requires a separate Python server???

in reply to Evan Light

@elight I don't know 🤷 The idea of the package is that mods get a common base for basic features and I think the hotkeys work without too - it may be only needed if you want to make use e.g. of a Stream Deck or something like that.
