May I present my #chromebook that runs #gentoo #linux which only took 2 days to compile everything and install? Currently installing xorg and xinit and it’s taking a while. This Chromebook has an Intel Celeron n2840 with 2GB of RAM and 14GB of space. I am not kidding. Yet Gentoo somehow still installed.
@selea Wish I could. I’m going to assume that it’s probably going to take 5 days to compile and install. Sadly, don’t have any Pentium Pro machines around…
Just set it in a corner fer a week'r two...😂, it'll've surely failed to compile somethin by the time you check on it. That laptop of mine took just under 3 days for 500+ pkg update this past weekend. More'n a few (un)masking stops during that time. Only two restarts were due to my own stupidity. You have a fairly well tuned make.conf for that laptop? If not, you may want to look into doing that before your next mass merging, might could save you half a day.
@ScottE @eshep I tried to do that when installing Gentoo but it kept failing to distribute. No clue what was going wrong but it just wouldn’t work so I gave up with that.
