Does anybody know a TV-remote shaped device that isn't pricey I can use in #Linux? I'd like to have arrows, enter, esc, and play/pause and skip.

@cryptica I use a similar rii keyboard with my steam deck and I love it very much, it's surprisingly usable for how small the keys are

@cryptica @tendstofortytwo Sounds perfect. I have 2 programs that look just like the versions on PS5 or a Smart TV, and work fine with a keyboard with arrows, enter, and esc. I just would like to not have to avoid leaning on a whole ass keyboard while watching video, or listening to music.
If I need to actually type, I'll grab the keyboard.

I have one of the first FLIRC dongles buried in a box somewhere that I used for years with a XBOX360 remote.

@eshep This looks to be perfect! Can it be programmed using a Linux machine?

I could repurpose my PS2 DVD remote that's still kicking around

Don't be silly, of course it can! 😆 I haven't used it in quite a few years, but I rekon the lirc driver still just translates the signals to generic keypresses.

That's gonna be down to the configuration of what yer usin it with. I'm perty sure I know what box mine's in, I'll dig it out tonight and test on current HW/OS ferye. I'll report back on findings (likely) tomorrow.

@Miakoda
So, I did manage to find mine quite easily, however, it no longer works. From what I've worked out so far, it's just the IR sensor that's tits up. I do still see all the keycodes it reports with evtest, just can't trigger em. I also found the cotroller I'd used with it in the same box, it was a XBone, not a 360 one.

@eshep This might be the perfect solution. If I can set what the keys are, I should be able to control Plex, Kodi, and Vacuum Tube.
