Hi, the Mastodons. I don't know how this works yet or how active I'll be here, but I thought I'd introduce myself.

I'm a UK-based female AuDHD adult, choosing to remain mostly anonymous. I'm really just curious about how the Fediverse works - I can be ambivalent about social media but I thought this sounded refreshing in contrast to the big, powerful platforms which feel scarier to me by the minute. I've also been getting to grips with Linux recently, and am thinking about other ways within my limited means and courage to try to be involved with more of the small things that are about moving away from exploitation and towards caring for each other.

Take care out there :)

do you know about hashtags around here? The algo is chronological so tags are very helpful. Such as #actuallyAutistic or #AuDHD . There are a bunch of great weird ones too, #lichensubscribe (for lichen pics), #asstodon (donkey pics), #caturday (which today is). Check out @FediTips if ever you feel lost (:

Did you know? If you want to _mention_ a hashtag like #lichenSubscribe, but you don't want followers of that hashtag to be alerted to your post (because it isn't actually about lichen) you can set the post's β€œvisibility” to β€œquiet public”?

It will still be visible to everyone, including your own followers as usual, it just won't alert strangers who are following the hashtag and it won't show up in searches for that hashtag.

Hii, I can recommend you fedi tips website, they have mastodon account also where they post tutorials and tips about fediverse.

I recommend to follow hashtags and people you find interesting, block and mute content and people you don't want to see and try to engage with people in comments.

Hope you will enjoy being on mastodon.

Hi there! The Fediverse is nice because you can make it as big or as small as you want it to be. I interact with a handful of folks, and that's my Goldilocks zone.

I struggle a lot with needing to know what the protocols, procedures and customs around certain things are. At least for me, there hasn't been too much friction along those lines here, which has made it an enjoyable place to hang out.

Hope it's a good experience for you, too!

Hello and welcome. It's great to meet you.

I see someone has already recommended fedi.tips/ . Let me also suggest fedi.directory/ as a way to find interesting people to follow and get your timeline kick-started. πŸ™‚
