I've tried both.
My government (AUS) effectively blocked my Linux phone (OG pinephone) from working when it shut down 3G and allowed the businesses running 4G/5G to only allow some phones. The Pinephone also had a bad camera and some apps don't have Linux equivalents, so you need to already be selfhosting a lot, and may need to change which businesses you interact with. Overall it was a struggle and I never replaced my 'main' phone. I'm considering trying again and using 2 phones if Graphene slips.
I'm now on GrapheneOS with most features turned on. Memory tagging breaks Teams, my bank's app, and my car's app - But memory tagging is optional. Only my car's manufacturer seemed to care about this. I was already changing banks, and not having Teams on my phone is a feature. Everything else is fine. Scopes is/was missing the ability to permit account access without giving full contact permission (an issue when restoring a WhatsApp backup). Google has started messing

Scopes is/was missing the ability to permit account access without giving full contact permission (an issue when restoring a WhatsApp backup). Google has started messing with their open source feed, see linked release note for one example. So currently it is 9/10 strongly recommended, but over the next few years Google may continue turning screws on the dev team.

This is random, but, if it's about linux phones, yeah,
@postmarketOS , or @mobian or @linmob would be your radars for "are linux phones Daily Driver-able yet".
If you're really (or just) looking for de-googling/apple-ifying, check out @murena (the phones, not necessarily the services). It's @e_mydata under the hood, and you can Just Buyβ’ them.
My most sincerest apologies if you know all this already. I just really resonate with wanting out of the mobile duopoly.
