Or you could just have backups.

I actually recently tested something on an old Windows 10 laptop, and Windows SERIOUSLY NAGGED ME TO DO A BACKUP.

Microsoft is trying all they can to make users back up their data somewhere - the most effective measure against ransomware there is. If people still don't do it, their problem.
