BBC News

Watched the early afternoon news, I agree with the BBC that the lead story should have been the attack on the synagogue in Manchester, but disagree with them about the coverage that they gave about the Israeli armed forces boarding a peaceful flotilla in the Mediterranean who are trying to take humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza!
Blink, you missed it!

Letter to my MP (again)

I have just sent the following email to my MP, I wonder if he will bother to reply to this one - as he hasn't for the last 4 or 5!

Pirates of the Mediterranean Sea

Dear MP

Once again the Pirates have struck at ships bearing humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza, in international waters, and from what I can see the response to this act from the UK Government is "oooh look, tumbleweed"
It appears, from what your party says and does in Government, that Genocide is tolerated if the right people are not targetted!

As I have asked in previous letters
WHY ARE WE STILL ARMING ISRAEL

In Disgust!

"Yes, Galaxy Pest Control, how can I help you?"

"Hi! I wonder if you could send out some exterminators. My Planet has been infested by some kind of creature, I don't know what to do..."

"Can you describe them?"

"Well, they are burrowing into the planet, and finding all kinds of nasty toxic and poisonous stuff, and then they build little homes with those toxins, and wrap themselves in it. Plus, I think they're fouling the whole Planet now by burning off those toxins, too"

"Ohh.,... I see... Yes, yes, I think you've been infested with Humankindus Horriblus! It's a tough job... We'll send over some Flying Space Exterminator Saucers right away!"

A great researcher I work with @carlysagan is looking for research funding or a remote position! It is really depressing how little funding is available to research the effects of satellite reentries... we REALLY need to get more scientists on this, because 1-5 Starlinks per day are reentering now and we don't actually know what that's going to do to the atmosphere... ugh.

Are people really being hired through Mastodon posts? I feel embarrassed to put my CV on here but I see a lot of people doing it and my workplaces and funds are illegally removing the only women and would appreciate any help finding remote work in STEM

Farage is keeping us prisoners in his Platonic cage with the nonsense he talks, which the media lets set the political agenda. We need to break the chains and go outside to find the light. taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2025/0…

Nature abhors a vacuum. But sometimes She fills it with flowers. Honesty, I could not have done this on purpose if I tried.

Tim Berners-Lee (@timbl) explains why he gave away the #WWW for free.
theguardian.com/technology/202…

"For the web to have everything on it, everyone had to be able to use it, and want to do so. This was already asking a lot. I couldn’t also ask that they pay for each search or upload they made. In order to succeed, therefore, it would have to be free. That’s why, in 1993, I convinced my #CERN managers to donate the intellectual property of the world wide web, putting it into the public domain. We gave the web away to everyone."

But he adds:

"Today, I look at my invention and I am forced to ask: is the web still free today? No, not all of it. We see a handful of large platforms harvesting users’ private data to share with commercial brokers or even repressive governments…Trading personal data for use certainly does not fit with my vision for a free web."

The BBC fact-checked the key elements of Trumps speech and found them wanting.

This is what US media could — and should — have been doing all along but didn't.

Perhaps we could look forward to the BBC treating Farage in a similar manner.

This has got to be one of the best. In Wales, UK, there is a legal requirement for road signs to be in both English and Welsh. So, in this case, the official of the Highways department emailed the English wording to the translator and, after receiving a reply, proceeded to have the sign made and installed.

Unfortunately, a few weeks later, Welsh-speaking drivers began to call up to point out that the Welsh reads..... "I am currently out of the office. Please submit any work to the translation team."
