As still as a mill pond

The pond of a small nature reserve reflects the trees at the far edge of the pond, there is very little movement on the water, above the trees is a clear blue sky, in the foreground is green vegetation.

Here a great & timely cartoon from Sarah Akinterinwa (Guardian) on the white privilege of being able to be relaxed about (ignore) the rise of the far right.

american life is so full of hardships. I just wish I died in endless war started by your uncontrolled global corporate interests just to protect a some random executive right to shit into a golden toilet.

I wish there were a more effective way of turning human capital to usable produce

Does anyone here know of any apps which gives user-definable flashcards which they can use to disclose access needs like "I've become non-verbal, please type with me" etc? A friend used to have one but can't find it now.

We know of Stickman Communication cards, but this friend is looking for an app. Any genuine ideas welcomed.

Just catching up with #LongLostFamily and something that struck me is that everyone talks about siblings.
Never really hear people talk about brothers and sisters.
I know siblings is correct terminology, but it sounds/seems so impersonal!
Don't know where I'm going with this just thoughts after a couple of glasses of wine!
Have a good weekend everybody.

are you going to the fair. It would have been good if the music had been sung by Simon and Garfunkel

How typical the ethnicity of the judge was changed from the original piece.

And when morning came her knights showed her the QUOTES that covered the fields, huge white blocks that blocked the view. And they told her the QUOTES were rooted deep in the ground and they could not be removed. And our Lady Joan Mastodon wept for three days and three nights. Then she rose and stood in front of her knights and spoke thus: We shall not quote, she said to them. We shall reply and we shall boost, but we shall not quote. We will pass by the QUOTES that cover our fields, we will plant trees around them, we will toot freely to each other as we always did, in direct exchange between one free tooter and another, never blocking the other's voice. Having spoken thus, she rode away. And as she passed the first of the QUOTES, her knights heard her laughing, a free, roaring laughter. That is our Lady Joan, they said to each other. Let us toot as she asked us to. Let us plant trees around the QUOTES.

i've had a while to think about this. here's my personal policy:
* i will quoot to add a CW (already doing this)
* I won't be adding any other "context" when I quoot.
* I will block anyone who uses quooting to do a "look at this idiot" (edit: probably even if they are an idiot)

@Fish Id Wardrobe @the roamer
The word 'quoot' is very coot.
I find it useful in two other ways: translating when the original is in another language - this might include adding context where necessary, actually. And sharing beyond what can be federated (Friendica federates with Diaspora and Mastodon, but they don't federate with each other).

friends, i’m sorry, but queer.party will, after eight and a half years, shut down on the 15th of December, 2025.

for more information, please see the announcement posted on the home timeline - this announcement also includes links to, and a list of, other instances that have offered invites or opened registrations to queer.party’s users.

a full timeline of the shutdown is posted on SourceHut, where queer.party's
source code is hosted: paste.sr.ht/~maff/67f89a7d6927…

Thank you for being here. It’s been lovely.

Very sorry to hear, but well done on an amazing stint providing the service for over eight years.

Also well done on graceful closure with three months warning and detailed shutdown timetable.

If anyone wants tech support-type help with transferring their account please feel free to get in touch, and there's also a step-by-step non-technical guide to account transfers at fedi.tips/transferring-your-ma…

If anyone is looking for a nice server, there are many listed at fedi.garden

On my walk around the local nature reserve this morning, I saw a lot of wind fallen pears, I was going to call them crab pears, but apparently crab pears are very similar in looks to crab apples.
I didn't pick any of the windfalls up, as they are very hard and bitter to taste (tried this a couple of years ago!)

Okay since the Fedi guppy groups are gone and the new groups are still very small, I'm doing a new #introduction

I'm Mar, a future SFF and #historicalfiction indie author who reads Arabic, Chinese, English and French. I post a lot about #medieval #history and the books that I'm writing.

I also have a blog that I sometimes post on for longer historical musings.

I know about @histodons and @militaryhistory and am looking to #follow more historical and writer accounts.

Boosts are appreciated.

Or as I think, he says it is OK to drive roughshod over the flag!
