Well that was strange...
I was trying to transfer some domain names away from Squarespace to porkbun. Kept getting a non-helpful error. Called support, a real human picked up, then fixed the problem! All within a minute!
Something is wrong.

ICE is offering a $45,000 SIGNING BONUS plus $100,000 starting salary.
I make $55,000 as a teacher in my 8th year with a Masters.
It was never true that wE dOn'T hAvE eNoUgH mOnEy to pay teachers more. It was always intentional. Education has been INTENTIONALLY defunded for decades because an educated populous is a threat to power. Read the books. Do the work. They are TERRIFIED of education.
Accurate. Also βpopulaceβ (noun), not βpopulousβ (adjective).
Iβm seeing this error quite often. Autocorrect, perhaps?
Doesn't matter what country you are USA or UK (other countries are available)
The oft use phrases
'We don't have the funding' .. 'Their is no money available' .. 'We cannot afford to do that' etc
Are all lies
And here I was wondering how they would fill up their ranks. I looked it up, starting salary for the army is Private First Class $25,297.20, if your a are married private (E2) in Fort Campbell, KY, with less than two years of service and all bonuses you'll be at $67,285.
This is how they bypass trained soldiers not obeying illegal orders. Damn.
back in the 80s conservatives had my dad and others convinced that school was a waste of money and was just "good people paying to raise welfare kids". he voted for oregon's ballot measure 5 which limited the state's ability to use property tax to fund schools. in the following years we saw schools cut music, shop and media production classes and cut a week or so at the end of the year to make up budget deficits.
it gives me a bit of shadenfreude to see people who supported this back then melt down about how nobody wants to have kids now.
the idea of an overpopulation crisis was part of the zeitgeist of that era and the conservative lens viewed it in terms of darwinism.
i think when they told my generation not to get married early, not to waste time dating when we could be in college or making a name in our careers, not to have kids until we were financially secure, each and every one was imagining how successful _their_ kid would be against the gas pumpers and video rental clerks everyone else was raising.
I moved from St. Louis to Cyprus.
There were other reasons for the move, of course, but in 2020, when there was enough stockpiled tear gas to use during months of some of the largest sustained protests in US history, and plenty of gas masks for cops, while hospital staff were wearing garbage bags and being issued a single n95 mask for use over a 2 week period, I was filled with absolute disgust at a society with such warped priorities.
Doesn't seem like the OP numbers are correct. The GS pay scale starts at 22k$ a year if you start with no qualifications. It can reach up to 122k$ but that appears to be rare that you would ever start at that level.
The point is still valid of course, the budgets seem to be available but not sure they are spent on people here either

Yes... that's the best adjective to describe it and I wish people would stop pretending.
π€£ I totally believed it... then again I don't go really...

a billion people would..... life is tough these days and the only thing that rules is money...π€·ββοΈ
And have. Since forever (the gold rush is back).
even plato was able to identify this.
Or rather, the role of education in a just and ideal state. Since the current US administration appear to wish the opposite of a just and/or ideal state, it naturally follows, that they have to keep the population as uneducated as possible.

If you want to post photos, videos or audio on Mastodon, here's a guide all about it:

The guide tries to answer common questions about media attachments on Mastodon, including which kinds of files can be uploaded and how large they can be.

The couple times I've tried, it appears to convert supported audio formats to 128k mp3, so I started preconverting them before upload.
What I'd really like is native opus support. You should get better quality at a smaller file size, but if I upload a 64k opus, it'll be converted to 128k mp3, and that doesn't help anyone.
Am I in error anywhere?
I had a quick look at the Mastodon Github issues about this, and as far as I can tell MP3 conversion happens due to browser compatibility?
MP3 seems to work pretty much everywhere but some browsers have (or had) problems playing Opus in websites. I'm not sure if this is the case any more though, as shown by the discussions in these issues.
The issues I looked at are:

FLAC is a free lossless audio format. Transcoding it to mp3 loses detail. All browsers support FLAC decoding natively.ddevault (GitHub)

The more I roll it around in my mouth, the more certain I am that the "AI" mania *perfectly* encapsulates neoliberalism in its entirety.
- doesn't work and never has
- steals everything around it
- produces nothing of value
- destroys all things with actual value
- lies
- creates the illusion of efficiency while vastly increasing both monetary and social costs
- is supported by militant zealots with tiny minds and hearts
- enriches a tiny group of individuals at the cost of destroying Earth

On top of that:
- viciously punishes people who refuse to pretend they're eager to participate
- creates incredible suffering wherever it goes
- cannot exist without exploiting the global South
- is subsidized by governments at the expense of social programs
- makes up most of the "data" it presents to the public
