Did you know Monopoly was invented by a woman named Elizabeth Magie in 1903?

Originally ‘The Landlord’s Game,’ it was designed as a protest against the big monopolists like Carnegie & Rockefeller.

But it was Charles Darrow, an unemployed salesman, who eventually sold it to Parker Brothers after playing a version.

Parker Brothers credited Monopoly with saving their company. Magie died in 1948 without recognition. Darrow became very wealthy & his legend lives on. #history #women #HistoryRemix

Just made this graphic if you'd like to save it and post it to your own social media accounts, encouraging others to join the server! For now, please provide the invite link by DM request, instead of opening it up to everyone who happens to find it, until we're sure we've gotten everything properly set up. Thanks for helping us grow our community!

My team at work just launched new research on the #TwitterMigration: We analyze which platforms are growing - especially #Mastodon, #Tumblr & #Post.

We look at which sites users are adding to their Twitter bios, posting to their friends about & downloading apps for.

Please do boost this, and love to hear any comments or feedback on it!

The Holocaust did not begin with killing; it began with words.

Genocides do not start with mass murder. That's where they end up.

Genocides & other mass atrocity crimes begin with words - specifically, with powerful people dehumanizing a minority.

Once they are seen as less than human, anything is possible, even mass murder.

👉 You can speak out loudly today for the rights of others, or you can stay silent & wait for tomorrow, when your rights will be taken away too.

For months, #Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has pushed a controversial plan to turn over public housing land to a professional #soccer team owned by an influential billionaire.

In mid-November, that billionaire owner of the Chicago Fire Football Club, Joe Mansueto, donated $25K to the mayor’s reelection campaign.

Half of all Americans now die in #hospice care.

Easy money & a lack of #regulation transformed a crusade to provide death with dignity into an industry rife with fraud & exploitation.

The most audacious hospice firms enlist family and friends to act as make-believe clients, lure addicts with the promise of free painkillers, or sign up “phantom patients” by stealing personal information.

Endgame: How the Visionary Hospice Movement Became a For-Profit Hustle:

this does a HUGE disservice to legitimate, not-for-profit #Hospices everywhere. Painting with broad strokes is a sham in itself. The bad actors you’re trying to scare people with are, fortunately, few and far between. All hospice organizations are regulated by State and Federal governments and after initial certification, are surveyed every 3 years just like Hospitals.

Been trying to keep an open mind about Post but, yeesh, it has a lot of warning signs right out of the gate, and I don't mean beta bugs. Comments run by OpenWeb? Investment by Marc Andreessen? No way to know who is reposting your content? No way to moderate comments on your posts?

It doesn't seem buggy, it seems structurally unsound in ways that will be hard to fix.

“To the extent that people remain active on Twitter, they preserve the viability of Musk’s gambit. The illusory sense of community that still lingers on the platform is one of Musk’s most significant assets. No matter which side prevails, the true victor in any war is the person selling weapons to both sides.”

In 1938, kindergarten teacher Helen Hulick wore slacks to court to testify as a witness in Los Angeles, CA. Judge Arthur Guerin was appalled & rescheduled the case, instructing her to “return in a dress.”

The next day, Hulick showed up in slacks again, declaring, “I will stand on my rights…I like slacks. They’re comfortable.”

She was sent to jail. web.archive.org/web/2021031514… #HistoryRemix
