Christina Ramberg (Aug 21, 1946 – Dec 10, 1995) was an American painter associated with the Chicago Imagists, a group of representational artists who attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in the 1960s.
The Imagists took their cues from Surrealism, Pop, and West Coast underground comic illustration, and their works often included themes of female sexuality. Ramberg depicted partial female bodies (heads, torsos, hands) often in submissive poses in undergarments, imagined in odd, seemingly erotic predicaments.
In 1989 Ramberg was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and Hanson took care of her until she had to go to an assisted living facility in Naperville, Illinois. She became a nimble seamstress as well as a dedicated quilter. In the early 1980s, Ramberg stepped away from painting and immersed herself in quilting. The medium allowed her the opportunity to contemplate complex ideas outside the realm of paint. Perhaps it was the structured geometry of quilting, as well as the electrical grid towers seen in cross-country travels by car, that inspired her “satellite paintings” of the mid-1980s, which depicted grid structures on a scumbled black background. This would be Ramberg’s final experimentation with form before her death in 1995, and demonstrates a truncated turn into new territory. mmoca.org

The Making of Husbands: Christina Ramberg in Dialogue presents twenty-three paintings and drawings by Ramberg made between 1967 and 1982. They capture a range of her practice, from Black Widow (1971), a flatly rendered painting of a torso undressing, introduced in the first room, to the more deformed-body-resembling assemblage of figurative parts in the later painting Glimpsed (1975). The exhibition looks at the radical implications of Ramberg’s practice alongside a broad range of other approaches, politics, and histories through a selection of thirteen other artists presented over the ground floors of KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin. The exhibition is curated by Anna Gritzand will travel to Frac Lorraine, Metz, France, and BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead, UK, in 2020.

Walked through Not-So-Fine Art show at FAB LA last night. Pop icons under glass in a building that used to be Art Deco. Somehow its own joke nobody seemed to catch. Big names, big cartoons, big vitrines. Handsome but very much the wrong register: sarcasm dressed as satire. Sarcasm agrees with you while rolling its eyes. Satire wants to ruin your night but nothing in that room seemed so inclined.
The claim "pop art is toothless" is just a shrug cuz pop art's bite got acquired. #PopArt

Here is one of the pieces of artwork that was made by myself that was purchased on July 5th when I was doing the Night Market in Milford, PA. It was made about eleven years ago and was in a box in our attic along with a lot of other works.
