Book recommendation:

Pirate Care:

"In many places around the world, the freedom to simply care for one another is under attack by the powerful, and acts of solidarity are being made illegal. In a moment of struggle defined by the rollback of social welfare programs, the criminalisation of migration, and the right-wing clampdown on bodily autonomy, radical networks of care are fighting back"

I really liked this. I have a thing for books which can give me "actually actionable insights that I can actually do next Tuesday", and this was one of them.

"Hay una batalla entre el proyecto de los tecnocésares y lo que podemos llamar democracia humanista. Tal vez, esta sea una nueva utopía: la construcción de un futuro digital donde volvamos a ser dueños de lo que somos, de lo que nos pasa, de lo que decidimos".

I almost couldn’t bring myself to read this post. The thought of deleting snapshots of who I used to be is horrific to me, and I didn’t know if I could handle reading about someone else doing it!

Thankfully Justin only deleted his subscription to Day One,; he didn’t delete the actual records it contained.

Yet another case for always keeping the data and words you’d be sad to lose in simple text files.

I totally feel the same way! I'm a bit of a digital hoarder, and am slowly digitising my analogue notebooks besides! I bring in my notes from 1-6 years ago now in Obsidian, and I really love seeing where I was in the past and reflecting on what's changed and what hasn't. It's embarrassing and painful sometimes, but I'd never delete them!

@nicole Sounds like a big job, digitising those notebooks, and reminds me I want to make a start on doing the same. That embarrassment and pain you mention, speaks of what I imagine must be satisfying progress.

@nicole I’m in a similar process but with journals from way back — currently integrating 2000-2015. It’s strangely healing and comforting to greet my past self in this way. Like defragmenting my selfhood somehow. I recommend it!

Debian 13.0 Ready To Introduce Formal RISC-V Support But Still Bound By Slow Hardware

With the Debian 13.0 release planned for 9 August, one of the notable fundamental features with this Debian "Trixie" release is now supporting RISC-V as an official CPU architecture. This is the first release where RISC-V 64-bit is officially supported by Debian Linux albeit with limited board support and the Debian RISC-V build process is handicapped by sl…

"Aid"

“Out of all those who went to the Zikim area seeking aid, only one person returned with a bag of flour. Approximately 30 others were brought back on animal-drawn carts, either dead or severely wounded.

“The scene is devastating.”
