Hundreds of birds were gathered on the lakes as we walked along. Suddenly, they rose in one huge startling screeching cloud of alarm. Nearby birdwatchers said: Havorn. A white-tailed eagle! We watched it swoop at the lake, birds and fish. Even at a distance, its wingspan and speed were terrifying & beautiful.

For several years now, I have been actively maintaining emacs-reveal [1] to produce interactive HTML presentations with audio as open educational resources. These presentations are generated automatically from Org mode text files using GitLab CI pipelines.
Summer term 2024 was the first time I incorporated text-to-speech functionality into my emacs-reveal workflow, resulting in video-like, yet interactive presentations: see my course on IT Systems [2]. Since the end of the lecturing period I have been updating software and documentation a bit. Feel free to reuse my course material and emacs-reveal; maybe comment on issue #20 [3]?

Installing #nixos for the first time.
I read that it was a simultaneous blessing and curse. I hope it will grant me effortless reinstall (rebuild as I understand it from nix)

After four motherboard replacements, this machine is again operational. It
is an 18-core hyperthreaded (36 thread) machine with 256GB of RAM, the CPU is overclocked at 4.9Ghz. In this configuration it can consume up to 540 watts if running full-tilt and finding a motherboard that could provide the required power was difficult. The Asrock actually melted the solder connections at the CPU socket.
All of these services except the shell server are free, the shell server runs $8/month for a standard account of $84/year.
