"Help me, Open Source, you're my only hope!" 🤖

Embodied's $800 kids' robot Moxie was facing certain doom, but the company is now working to liberate it through open-source. From bricked to freed - that's what I call a plot twist! Community-powered robot resurrection FTW.

US lifts $10m bounty on #HTS leader after talks in Syrian capital - theguardian.com/world/2024/dec… "In face-to-face meeting, Ahmed al-Sharaa gave assurances IS would not be allowed to operate in Syria, US official says" #syria

I'd have more confidence in this if Israel wasn't so busy trying to make sure he has nothing to stop them with.

A pair of satellites will create artificial solar eclipses to study the sun

Astronomers hope the Proba-3 mission will help them get a better view of the corona, the sun's outer atmosphere, which is even hotter than the sun's surface.

is there a low-power "detect the computer is idle" api in #linux? i've attempted to use #inotify against input devices (following the example of aur.archlinux.org/packages/bri…) but that's somewhat cpu intensive ...

i could do tricks by sleeping say 25 sec and then set up the inotify and select on it with a 5 sec timer, or so... then it's low power for 25 sec and the user has to be active in the 5 sec...

this tradeoff between the "resolution" of idle detection and the power usage seems regrettable

this post gave me a community violation warning for "civility and election integrity" on TikTok.

It's fucked up beyond recognition.

Rudolph is dangerous for American election that was done in November?

Google finally did it. Is it time to switch to Firefox? I believe users should be in control of what they can install and use on their desktop or laptop. There's uBlock Origin Lite, which replaces the original uBlock Origin for Chrome and similar browsers. Give it a try.

to be honest , @ocramius

IMHO, are we still so ' naive ' ... who is still using #1984 #chrome web browser ?

G just made it ... more obvious ?

PS: BTW, you might give #librewolf ( #firefox fork a try ) ;-)
