It's amazing how I can now deposit a check using my phone and a simple banking app. All it takes is photographing both sides of the check, and voilà—done! I have a small check sitting on my desk right now, waiting to be deposited. It's been there for three days, procrastination getting the better of me. Back in the day, depositing a check meant a trip to the bank or mailing it through the United States Postal Service—so 20th-century. Another, less common option was finding a retailer willing to accept a two-party check. Would you have accepted one? It was easier with a paycheck which became a retailer service in places, though there was often a fee involved.

in reply to Swede’s Photographs • • •I tried to deposit a cheque by photographing it. The app said there was an error, but didn't say what the error was or what I could do about it other than try again later. Which I did ... for a few weeks.
It then took a LOT of effort over several more weeks to get the bank to send me a book of paying in slips so that I could post them the cheque, which I received in February.
Last time I looked the money still hadn't been credited to my account.

That's unfortunate. Personally, I've been lucky—no issues depositing checks digitally using my phone's camera (knock on wood). I don’t get many checks these days, and the few I do receive are rarely worth the hassle of even a quick 5-minute trip to the bank.
