Now that Peertube allows us to create a custom homepage, we can highlight the best of Peertube. We are adding more and more to the homepage. We worked for a bit to make it look nice - see for yourself videos.trom.tf/

As a bonus we will add on the homepage a very interesting documentary every week or so. So keep an eye on it! #tromimg

Looks nice, better than the original design.

We have updated our Peertube (perfect timing) and we are now able to create our own homepage where we can showcase other Peertube videos/channels/playlists. Tell us if you know any peertube accounts that are sane and relevant. #tromlive

tube.privacytools.io/video-cha… perhaps?

TROMmaps officially added to trom.tf/ as a fully functioning service. See it here in action maps.trom.tf/ and here you can learn more about it trom.tf/maps/ . It is an amazingly great trade-free map.

#tromimg

One more positive news today: we have added Whiteboards to our TROMfiles files.trom.tf and increase the quota from 3GB to 5GB for all users. #tromimg

We need you to vote on this poll - poll.trom.tf/studs.php?poll=J5…

It is about how should we go forward with our TROMvideos (Peertube). We have some 2 weeks to decide. There are 2 options. Choose one please! Thanks!

#tromlive

We have updated our TROMsocial presentation page trom.tf/social/

We added the new slightly improved designs of our themes, how to find other people on the platform, and what apps you can use with TROMsocial. Give it a look # tromimg

ytb.trom.tf/watch?v=ZZgskb-Trp… These are true heroes! People who save lives without questions asked. Or "trade-free". They do not ask anything in return for their work. That's how we all should be! #tromlive

@Future is FOSS I would like to focus more on the positive aspects of our world, but is hard....so much "bad" stuff. However I plan, once I am done with the documentary, to focus 60% on the positive, 40% on the negative or something like that :D. I too am sick of the negative, but is necessary to highlight it in order to understand why positive is so necesarry.
in reply to TROM

Focusing on negatives are not a bad thing. If we don't focus on them how can we understand our problems and try to solve them.

in reply to TROM

This is why I like fediverse, because this is the only place that have even tried to address this problem - fosstodon.org/@garritfra/10519…

The thread is kinda broken there because #fedilab dev moved to a different username now, so all his replies are gone.

in reply to Rokosun

Not only can we implement anti-addiction features on fediverse, but users also have the choice between different clients. I can even use mastodon on my terminal, lol 😂

Despite all this, social medias can still seem like its addictive, but its not as bad as you think. Science vs did an episode on this - gimletmedia.com/shows/science-…

Note: This doesn't mean you should keep using ad platforms like facebook, move to fediverse !

in reply to Rokosun

I wouldn't call these tools "addictive". Yes they are built to try and make people stay there and use them for as long as possible, cause that's what they are trading attention and data. But for something to become addictive, usually it is one's environment allowing for that to become addictive. These ad-networks are not at all addictive to me. Alcohol is not addictive to me. Gambling...same. So it is a combo between these "business models" and the fact that humans are bombarded with a lifestyle model and they think is cool to take selfies and post online and use these crappy ad-networks. I bet Friendica (that has no boosts and no mentions about who engages with your posts, except comments) can become addictive to many people who are nowadays used to check their "newsfeed" every minute. Despite Friendica being 1.000 times better, design wise, than Facebook when it comes to being designed for humans and not for milking them.
in reply to TROM

I completely agree with you about the environment being a factor. I've had a Facebook account for a long time, but I never really used it. I've posted some pictures, but I usually go on for like months without even logging in to my facebook account. Same with instagram, I don't check it that often. Because I don't use facebook that much I deleted my account a few months back.
in reply to Rokosun

On the other hand I've never really used Twitter before. My first experience with a text based platform was mastodon. I created this account just to follow some FOSS projects I like, I never thought I'd be talking to strangers on a social media cause I've never done that before. But here I am, being active on a social media for the first time, talking to people I don't know IRL using an anonymous account 😁
in reply to Rokosun

So mastodon was a more appealing social media for me. It might be because its text based, people write their thoughts here, not posting their selfies. And I don't take many pictures/selfies myself so it makes sense. Also, because I don't know anyone here IRL, its the only way to keep myself updated. I'm mainly interested in projects like TROM, FSF, and the FOSS community in general, but I also like the people here.
in reply to Rokosun

I feel like I'm being a bit addictive to mastodon recently. So I might be taking a break from it soon. I've seen others taking a break from fediverse, they come back after a few days, weeks or even months. They post about it before going.

I don't know if its a bad thing TBH, all the interactions I've had here seem to be meaningful in some way. I'll be taking this break just to try out something new, maybe watch some documentaries or something.

in reply to Rokosun

@Future is FOSS This is why we removed the notification for the newsfeed from our Friendica instance. To make it less annoying and prone to make vulnerable people click that button all the time.
in reply to TROM

I'm hoping its opt-in. So that people who want it can still enable it.

TBH, I didn't clearly understood what notifications you meant. What did you mean by newsfeed ?

in reply to Rokosun

@Future is FOSS In friendica you get a little notification bubble on top of the newsfeed icon when there are new posts in the newsfeed. But if you follow a few accounts then that notification will always be there annoying. It does nothing but telling you there are new posts in the feed. We disabled it by default.
