Not all is nice and dandy with linux+xfce. XFCE is really great, but on my laptop (having Nvidia) my TROMjaro crashes every 2 or so days to the point of no return. I have to manually shut it down from the button. No TTY working. That's a super duper bad bug. :(

Especially when you work on a multi hour and massive documentary, while at the same time I may build a new tromjaro ISO, have so many projects, emails, millions of files to sync...it is a disaster.

It is not linux or xfce's fault, but nvidia or other manufacturers that do not provide proper support for their hardware. Same tromjaro works perfectly fine on other laptops I am testing.

Using wayland? In that case turn to x11 again, it will stop problems

XFCE only runs on X11 wiki.xfce.org/releng/wayland_r…

Then it might depend on the distro. I am running Manjaro myself and I know there are problems with Wayland and Gnome. Maybe there are some underlying issues that is not know yet. Maybe it even depends on the type of Nvidia cards being used.

Very likely an issue with the Nvidia card I am using. The driver probably is buggy for my graphics card. But only with XFCE it seems. Worked well with Gnome....

Ah, suppose it will have a problem with the graph libs in xfce then. I am using Gnome and it works well indeed. Did not test any other WM yet with this card ( NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060/PCIe/SSE2 )

Not even being able to access the TTY sucks, that's a nasty bug. I hope Linux improves in these areas. Even though I personally use linux, I find it a bit hard to recommend it to noobs because of these stability/consistency issues. I'm not really satisfied with any of the noob friendly GUI distros I've tried so far.

I get that, but these errors are rare. Most of the bugs are not that bad. I used Windows for many years and came across some very nasty bugs...in high-school I was the "computer guy" who repaired broken windows computers and had to reinstall so many and deal with so many bugs.

Yeah, this is an interesting perspective, because I think all OSes suck and have nasty bugs, not just linux. And you probably would've seen more windows bugs than most people since you were the "windows repair guy", haha. TBH, I haven't used windows for that long so I'm more familiar with linux, and all the time I did use windows was just watching movies and stuff, I didn't really did much on it.
