Someone who wants to join our Friendica instance asked me if ours is blocked by other instances. Well...see folks!? How can I know!? On the fediverse any admin can block any instance without you and me having a clue if, what and when they do so.

I keep on telling you, this practice is ruining the fediverse as a whole. It is almost like burning down forests becasue you found some weeds.

We need a way to know who blocked what. Not only what my instance blocked, but what instances blocked mine.

However the best practice is not blocking instances at the admin level, EXCEPT when an instance is clearly full of spam-bots. Let the users decide for themselves what they want to block. There are many proposed solutions out there as to how we can deal with unwanted content, such as: disable the global timeline, shorter lifespan for remote items (so you don't really host any remote content), blocklists enforced by admins but that can be overwritten by users, or adblock-like lists that any user can easily apply for themselves.

Be smart, federated people! Think long term, not short term.

I would not like to do that either, but I think it is worse than cutting connections and not being transparent about it.
