@admin why aren't we able to see some messages from mastodon.social and fosstodon?
in reply to Kdenlive

fedi drama
Most likely due to how overpopulated mastodon.social is compared to its moderation capabilities, and fosstodon is probably blocked due to the admin... well... telling someone to stop speaking Irish on the server and to leave
in reply to Kdenlive

If @Kdenlive ever wants to move to another network you can use ours social.trom.tf - I have a strict "policy" of never banning any servers except spam-bot servers. The rest is up to the users to ban. I think that's quite fair and sane. I think that if admins start to cut ties with other servers they are going to break the fediverse.

Manage your own backyard but do not stop your users from communicating with other users from other backyards.

in reply to Tio

@tio "except spam-bot servers" – so you aren’t blocking the right-wingers, CSAM, TERF instances? That’s exactly the "free speech!" maximalist approach that led Twitter under Musk into a fascist shithole.

Why would I block these instances? They are separate entities from ours. Not on our server. If people want to connect with other, so be it. It's up to them. Why do you or others block them when users can already block other users or entire instances?
in reply to Tio

Because this is how we keep them from being successful in our fediverse. But I see, the paradox of tolerance doesn’t fit into your world view.

But why do you block them instead of letting the users block them? At least when you block/mute them make sure that ALL of your users are aware and these are they listed somewhere like it is the case for Friendica social.trom.tf/friendica
in reply to Tio

@tio I’m blocking them as a Mastodon admin on another instance to provide my users a hate-free fediverse and to enforce my aforementioned principle to marginalize hate groups in the fediverse with the goal that they feel unwelcomed and leave. As an admin, it’s your responsibility to care for the course of the fediverse.
@Tio
in reply to Maxi 10x πŸ’‰

Unfortunately they won't leave, they will concentrate in more and more closed bubbles that will reinforce their stupidity. That's what the research says, from my knowledge. And if you block them based on your subjective notions then you will end up taking decisions for many people. A bad practice.

It is so easy for users to stay away from these "bad" people. For one, they can only select to see what their friends, that they approve, post. They can have full control over their timeline. Better teach them how to take care of themselves.

in reply to Tio

@tio This stance is in fundamental opposition against the majority of the western fediverse. Why do you even care to be here, why not just using Xitter? You can just ignore all the bad actors, block a myriad fascists all by hand for yourself. πŸ€—

I care to be here because we can have our own home and yet connect to other homes. And we can have full control over our own house. So I invite people in and make sure they are ok people and are not bad with others. But I will not tell them who they can call from their own mobile phones while they are in my house ;). That would make me a little Hitler. These people are mature enough and have plenty of easy to use tools to take care of themselves.
in reply to Maxi 10x πŸ’‰

For example on Friendica I can easily setup my account to not be contacted by anyone EXCEPT the people I have added manually as friends. And I will ONLY see the posts from my friends. How can those bad people still bother me? I don't understand....
in reply to Kdenlive

I doubt you'll see this, but your server seems to be deciding what it thinks you should see. The moderation list is hidden so a user has no way to know what parts of the fediverse that are blocked.

Fosstodon being blocked is a bit ironic, the rules are almost the same as theirs.

It's a bit painful, but I'd move to a popular instance where drama isn't the default.

in reply to Kdenlive

because they're on "mute" here. And yeah, it's pretty annoying. It makes me think about switching to my own instance to avoid these "moderation wars".
in reply to Kdenlive

@Rokosun you on fosstodon right? Did you see this?

Exactly what we were screaming for some time now....terrible when admins decide who you can connect with.
in reply to Tio

Our community does not allow unsolicited content from servers that regularly allow illegal or abusive content. Neither of the mentioned servers are blocked by our server and our users are free to connect with them.

So they are not blocked. Are they muted tho? Why can't @Kdenlive connect to those servers, or see messages form them?
in reply to Tio

@tio @roko We are handling their support questions directly. Thanks for your concern.
in reply to Tio

@Tio @FLOSS.social :mastodon_oops: @Kdenlive

See this comment of mine - fosstodon.org/@futureisfoss/11…

You don't see it when you directly visit their instance here - floss.social/@kdenlive/1108828…

So I'd say fosstodon.org is probably muted, if we were blocked then I wouldn't have even be able to comment, but muting means that @Kdenlive probably didn't see my message.

This documentary completely changed my view about #Kdenlive, I had no idea that a free (as in freedom and cost) video editor would be THIS powerful! And thanks to my friend Tio for making such an inspiring film, this documentary felt so great and important that I actually volunteered to do the subtitles for it - and in order to do that I myself had to use Kdenlive because none of the subtitle editors I tried were as good as the UX of kdenlive! πŸ™‚

in reply to Rokosun

oh ok...still terrible....what is the difference then? if you can't even interact with the server when muted?
