Specifically for local playback I usually use Audacious, since it supports winamp themes and is available on linux. I also may use Elisa or MPV. I usually use Feishin on my desktop though and stream from my Subsonic server, but im not sure that counts? however the files are technically on my local network on a server under my desk. I usually prefer FLACs where available.

fb2k on a Mac here (so glad that it exists, missed it sorely when I moved away from Windows).

My digital music collection contains a lot of Vorbis, FLAC, MusePack in addition to MP3.

Software EQ is used to reduce the bass in newer electronic music. :P

It's already becoming clear after just a short time that there are many different ways to listen to local music files on a PC. I'd never heard of most of these apps before. It's really great to broaden my horizons.

I run a Navidrome server, and I use Navic on my phone. I use cmus on my laptop sometimes. MPV is my video player of choice generally, and it works well for music too.

Auxio is my preference for playing local files on android.

If you don’t mind me piggy-backing off this question, I haven’t decided on one because I’m looking for a music player that can seamlessly loop files at arbitrary points. I have a few game OSTs and I like to listen to loops of them occasionally. Does anyone if there are any music players that can do this?
